I think I read somewhere that if you know it is not yours you are required to hand it in, especially as the bank can trace both the withdrawer and the person who used he machine afterward.

It up to you and the ethical decision is yours, I think I would return it to the bank myself.

I'm pretty sure that if he found £250 in the cash machine he had no need to use the cash machine so they could not trace it.

I know but i was just saying. Anyway, it is odd that the cash machine didn't 'eat it back up' unless he got there just after it was withdrawn.
