I bought not a long time ago a i3 bundle from OCUK, with a gigabyte mobo and a pre overclocked i3 running at 4.2ghz, alls been fine then one day out of the blue the cpu heatsink decided to crack and come off (the base plasic where the screw goes in to tighten), I was in a game of bf3 beta at the time when my game slowed down (thought it was a bug lol) and then my pc reset, upon rebooting the cpu temp was 105c!!, after buying a replacement cooler (corsair H60) my temps are ok idle (42c) but load they go up to 90c on load...

Have I possibly damaged the cpu or the thermal sensor?

Update: reseated the cpu cooler and added an extra fan for push pull now load is 75, seems like the hot weather is not helping!

Re: update,

What do you mean by load? 75 degrees still sounds high so if it's hitting that whilst playing a game i'd suggest it still needs looking at - maybe excessive voltage? If you're stress testing though then fair play.

The voltage is 1.360v running at 4.2 ghz, does seem a little high to me as well, Ive reseated the cpu and applied some Arctic silver 5, cleaned up the cabling and got 2 fans blowing air in, on either side of the radiator.

Anymore suggestions on lowering temps?
