what laptop cooling pad would you suggest for an alienware m17x? i seem to be unable to find anyone in the uk stocking an nzxt cryo, so what are the next best cooling for a 17" er

thanks

was looking at the coolermaster notepal u3 but it got some poor reviews

Don't think I've ever read a review of these that made more than a couple of degrees of difference. Whenever I was using my notebook for long periods of time, I'd prop the back of it up with some coasters or something similar, that would see temps drop 4-5 degrees in some cases.

it feels hot directly in the middle of the base where the engraved plate is, maybe its just me as this is my 1st laptop.

The internal temps are great on this laptop, it doesnt need a laptop cooler. That being said, I sit mine on a zalman nc2000 when working at my desk on an external screen. The only reason being I bought it for my xps16 which was a scorching bucket of poo!.

With the zalman the temps are a few degrees lower and the fans hardly ever ramp up whilst gaming and rarely come on surfing the net.
I also noticed, just by elevating the rear you get far better temps.

But to proove it isnt necessary, I took it to a lan evening and gamed on it for 5 hours with the gpu heavily overclocked and the laptop was still cool on the top and only hot in the area mentioned (ie the nametag area). the internal temps maxed out at 71c for the gpu and mid 70's on the cpu which is amazing.

many thanks metalface mark, my main rason for the tray was like you say to ramp the back up to allow a better airflow
