Big accident at the Nürburgring

Wow! crazy! All it would have taken was to signpost those roadworks with some flashing yellows much much earlier taking into account the speed people would be doing. Just a little common sense really. There aren't too many really fast sections with blind brows/corners, but that's one of them. The fact the Ring Taxi stuffed it too says it all. Sadly I think MaX PoWah is right - this sort of easily preventable mess will get the place closed down before too long :(.

Hopefully it will do and then someone with common sense might take over

Stuff like that will get it closed down, and everyone will be wondering why! i had hoped to go this year, maybe next year now!

Stuff like this has also been happening for YEARS. I have a friend who was involved in a similar pile up in 2008. You just need to take a look at the Adenauer Forst compilation from the 70s to realise that people have been running out of talent there for several decades.

It is not a free for all, dangerous driving is treated seriously.

Shouldn't they be doing road works when nobody is on the track?

That's crazy, no wonder there was a pile up.

The track is 13 miles long - doesn't make sense to close the whole thing. It may have been the case that they were repairing track damage from an accident too.

There should have been better sign-age on the run up to the works, but the repairs on a live track are acceptable imo.

Scary place to have roadworks and you'd at least hope the Ring Taxi drivers (who AFAIk are employed by the track themselves?) would know where the roadworks are and also know that traffic will be very slow there?

Terrible markings of the location, one of the fastest sections and suddenly to come over the brow of the hill to see traffic doing 100kph less than you are is scary. Glad no one was killed, all because some idiot traffic worker probably couldn't be bothered walking another 100 yards down the track over the brow of the hill and round the corner to leave the signs.

HOLY CRAP at that video, you can just see the corvette crashing. Seems like incredibly negligent road works which surprises me as when there were road works when I was there it was pretty obvious where they were and well sign posted. Seems like they dropped the ball and cost some customers a hell of a lot of money.

WOW

@ 10min 30 you can see the Ring Taxi crash into the two cars. Also those roadworks are mental. no warning at all on a very fast stretch of the circuit.

i'd imagine the Ring would have to cover some of the blame if not all

the froggy vid shows how much it pays to have good brakes, even after driving the car hard for however long, all those guys appeared to have been able to wipe their speed off effectively

Are the nurburg people completely covered against lawsuits with these things? I'm sure people will be mightily unhappy about the condition of their cars.

Though, I doubt it's the sort of clientele to go to such extremes really.

Although the roadworks didn't seem to have sufficient warning, many of the drivers seem too committed considering it is a tourist day.

You have to be aware that you can come around any corner to find a bus trundling along at 30mph, a spun car or indeed roadworks and drive accordingly. So many of the visitors don't seem to do this.

If you want to drive close to the limits at the nurburgring, then you should get a race license and compete in one of the racing events on the nordschleife, or at least one of the private track days. At least then you have all the appropriate safety gear, marshalls and are on track with people who should fully understand the associated risks.

As mentioned above, sadly all the publicity the tourist days have got (top gear, motoring press, lads magazines etc) have given the impression that it is just a free for all, drive as fast as you want without consequences and as a result it has become a much riskier thing to do.

I expect this will be the exact argument that the Ring will use to absolve them self from any responsibility.

The key point will be if the layout of the roadworks and the signs fit with German guidelines for public 'national speedlimit' roads.
