Career advice?

Thats true. Ok let me rephrase, i would defo do accounting if i wasnt so crap at maths and find it so boring because im so bad! :D

I'm not sure why people believe accountancy is a good choice for mathematical types. (that isn't to say that mathematical types don't go into an do rather well in accountancy)

If you're good at maths and wanted to work in something related to finaance in some way then you'd likely be more interested in becomeing an actuary, trader, quant etc...

If you want a solid business qualification then become some variety of accountant by all means but I don't believe it will appeal to people looking for a maths related career - tis more for people with an interest in business.

This is true, most of the maths needed for accountancy qualifications isn't hugely difficult - if you can pass A-levels then you can definitely do it. If you've got a great facility for numbers then it's unlikely to hurt how you get on but it's not as much of a prerequisite as being of a logical (and preferably inquiring) mind is.

I was in KPMG last week, then Deloitte earlier today. They both left an amazing impression. Go go go go, haha.

I have 5 mates working for those companies, all in very good jobs after 6 years. 3 for KPMG, 2 for Deloitte. Be careful, they had the same impression, but job satisfaction = none. They find it so dull and boring. The 3 at KPMG is a mix of 2 London based, one Israel based. Deloitte both UK based.

That, unfortunately, appears to be quite a uniform feeling in KPMG with a lot of people taking time off to go travelling because it's extremely long hours. It's not unheard of to do several 16 hour days often.

Maybe Helsinki is different

You definitely came to the right place to ask this sort of question, compboyo will be here in a minute to help you out.

Pfftt, KPMG are way better than Deloitte. Deloitte are all up themselves in my opinion ;)

I might work for KPMG.

Completely depends on the department. Guessing your friends all work in Audit? People in Audit either love it or hate it, either way they usually leave after they qualify. There are lots of other departments such as tax, advisory, corporate finance, restructuring, etc. All depends on what you enjoy most. Most departments are very much 9-5.
