Nexus Prime

What advantage does the curved screen give?

Bit of an obvious one... but not scratching when placed face-down on a flat surface? Also less glare than a flat screen due to how it reflects light, as well as being apparently comfier to hold against your face.

I paid £500 for my S2 and have invested in quite a bit in it but I will see. If I can get a decent figure for my S2 with accessories and if the Prime is significantly better then maybe!

It's going to be hard for a phone to be significantly better than the S2 though.

At the end of the month my Vodafone Contract can be renewed as I will be within 90 days so I an easily wait a month or two and go the upgrade route via Vodafone and then sell the S2 I guess as then the handset cost of the Prime won't be very high (if anything at all).

The screen resolution alone makes it significantly better... 720p on a SUpoer AMOLED screen will be mind-blowing, and offer a desktop-class browsing experience. Not to mention make it a very capable ereader. :)

What is the state of NFC technology in this country at the moment, obviously not widespread adoption yet but is it in some places?

Non starter, NFC is years away from being mainstream and has some really bad problems that most people just havn't experienced (often takes longer than PIN entry for one). Until tesco change our their C&P machine supplier it's going nowhere anyway.

i think if a rom i truly liked for the S2 was out and complete i would stick, but CM7 is taking an age, and still in Beta, let alone RC or final release. I have decided to give up roms and rooting and take the plunge on this even if its like for like spec. i guess maybe get around £300 for the S2 and then this will be hopefully around the £450 / £500 mark?

I'll be very surprised if its 'much' better than the screen on the SGSII.

^ The only other potential 'spanner in the works' is possible use of the OMAP4460 SoC. Exynos seems to be generally better and has a much, much faster GPU.
With a 720p display 3D performance could be in the same league as phones like the Desire Z and the SGS2 will still (easily) hold the performance crown (esp by leveraging the GPU for the custom UI/web browser acceleration etc.)

I'm still hoping for a 32nm SoC, they're just so close now! (and the reason Apple delayed the all new iPhone imo)

I don't understand your reasoning for wanting to upgrade. What makes you think the stock nexus rom will be better than a stock sgs2 rom? You'll be onto cm7 when the nexus comes out anyway:p

I guess the Nexus will be pure Android, Not have loads of rubbish tacked on like the stock roms on the SGS2. Touchwiz is god awful to be honest.

The only decent feature I find on the stock SGS2 is samsungdive, the rest can go away I have no use for them.

cm7 is pure android isn't it

and on the stock rom - the samsung stuff doesn't drain any battery if you don't use it - whats the problem?

cm7 is pure android

But does it fully work on the SGS2? Nope still loads of bugs & things that won't ever fully work due to Samsung not releasing the sources.

It is maybe pure Android but it isn't fully usable yet so it is not an option.

The problem is it shouldn't even be on there in the first place. That is the problem with Android & I hope ICS stops all the bloat being put on.
