Nexus Prime

But does it fully work on the SGS2? Nope still loads of bugs & things that won't ever fully work due to Samsung not releasing the sources.

It is maybe pure Android but it isn't fully usable yet so it is not an option.

The problem is it shouldn't even be on there in the first place. That is the problem with Android & I hope ICS stops all the bloat being put on.

how does the bloat actually affect you?

Actually completely forgot about that! :D

Yup :p

I also am not sure about the bloat comments. Samsung do include several "Hubs" which are rubbish but unlike HTC handsets that (fail to work if you remove anything Sense), removing the Samsung apps is so easy once rooted (which is in itself so easy).

Uses memory that would otherwise be used for something useful?

I'm not saying that the SGS2 is a bad phone I love mine to bits, But I wish these phones would just come as android was intended. Not with bits tacked on everywhere.

I know I can root & I do actually have mine rooted using Leomar Rom.

This is what I am hoping ICS will solve, While keeping the customising options.

can't see why it wont have MHL?

If it does then it's massively great news for AOSP ROMs because it could be backported to the S2's AOSP ROM scene but I've not seen any Stock Android phone to date have HDMI out. (MHL is HDMI).

That might be different with Ice Cream Sandwich though, I hope it is!

RAM use is a non issue as it never really runs out on the SGSII.

The rest is really a non issue too. I guess I can understand your point.

The main issue for me with the samsung rom is delayed updates - that is all.

If you have your phone rooted just go to system/app and delete all the bloatware. You can also just download a script someone made that will delete it for you.

As for RAM being used by bloat, it's pretty irrelevant.

That is another thing I completely forgot about also. Wouldn't it be nicer to get "pure" Android straight from Google instead of waiting months on end for samsung/htc/motorola to add their launchers, hubs, widgets. I just want Google to step up I guess & say this is how we want it shipped.

I understand your points also, Some of these things in the stock roms are good for first time users & ones who just want a phone to work.

I wasn't talking about RAM I was talking about actual flash space to store things, non issue yes I will agree.
We will see what happens when ICS comes.

how the hell is that irrelevant - it uses android stock doesnt it? :)

Well because we're on about phones, not tablets!

If HDMI did work on stock Android outside of HC then developers would have enabled it long ago!

this is the first new nexus from when HC was released.

And why wouldn't it work - there's no plausible explanation.

It's not irrelevant because ICS will run on both tablets and phones so it's part of the new Android.

Exactly, but I fear you're confusing my point though regarding Honeycomb having HDMI out.

Hence why I said I do hope ICS has it too because then the gap closes even further.

It's easy to safely kill bloat with Titanium Backup's Freeze option. That's what I've done on my GS2.
