Leg cramps at night

I get leg cramps in my calf muscles and after an attack the muscle still hurts days later.

I use Crampex Tablets from SuperDrug/Boots etc and they really do work. Strangely enough, as it says in the instructions, I can tell the nights when I will experience cramps, so after an initial attack, if I think I'll get cramps, I'll take the tablets.

I've never had a night where I've taken the tablets and still got cramps.

I think a box of 48 CRAMPEX tablets are about £7.05

I also read that Sulphate of Quinnine can be used but that is a prescribed drug, Crampex are available over the counter.

And Bananas - Don't mock them, they don't grow on trees you know!

As a general rule I only suffer from the old calf cramp if I've been drinking heavily in the previous few days, but by god does it hurt. Generally I'm still in pain a couple of days later.

yeah, used to get these. not as much anymore. they are damn sore and do leave the leg tender for a few days. stand up as soon as it comes on, push your foot against a wall or something for a minute. don't make sudden movements afterwards or you may bring it on again.

its a spasm and most people will experience a few times in their life. i get it when swimming sometimes too. keep the muscle sublte with stretches i guess

happy cramping!

Cramp in your hip on a sports bike after a long ride can be rectified by a serious case of man up. Stick your leg out and risk having it taken off, or if you're going round a bend loose your balance and over/understeer off the road.

Had it once at uni. I stay very well hydrated and eat a blanced diet and haven't had it since.

Weirdly I used to get this all the time, then didn't have it for ages but only the other day I was awoken to an agonising cramp in my calf muscle - I normally punch it which sounds odd, but it gets rid of it quicker than suffering the agonising pain that feels like my calf is about to rip open.

i dont but my fiancee does in the middle of the night and i get to see her dance around the room naked trying to get rid of it :)

I used to get this all the time when using the exercise bike, stretching for 5-10 minutes usually prevents any cramps that night for me.

*Raises Hand* Yup im another that gets these, maybe a couple of times a month - Wake up in the middle of the night in freaking agony, takes forever to subside then it aches for days after..Had it in my calf and the worst is your thigh.

Helps if you put your foot on a cold floor to get rid of it, like a tiled floor or stone, even a wall or radiator with sock off, just bare foot. Colder the better.

Google 'hylands leg cramps'

Been a life saver for this, look at the quick dissolve ones with quinine.

only get it every now and again. first time it happened i couldnt walk properly all the next day.

now when it happens (very rare) i can usually stretch it out and its fine when i wake up again.

I've not had it recently but I've had it several times, apart from it hurting like hell it's got it's comical side.... from an on lookers perspective... try and stretch it in bed, no can do... so try and get up to stretch it and immediately stagger and usually fall over because the locked up muscle is causing my foot to be in permanent tip toe mode.

Also random fact, I have restless leg syndrome xD. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Restless_legs_syndrome

Also my shins now hurt from the recent jogging schedule me and my house mates have been doing.... can I just have a leg transplant please!?
