The other half wants some new interior doors to replace the cheap white ones we currently have. Being pants at DIY myself I'll be getting someone in to fit them. The doors will be unvarnished so I need to know whether it's best to hang them then varnish or varnish then hang. I suppose both options have their pros and cons. Hang first cos we've not got much room to store 9 doors and wait while we varnish them. However, they might get scuffed etc when the joiner is drilling the locks out and planing them to size etc.

Don't touch them until the joiner's hung them and they fit correctly. Then take them down and varnish before rehanging.

I would say hang then finish too - otherwise you'll have unfinished edges where the doors have been planed down to size.
I find it easier to take them off their hinges and remove handles/latches and then find an out-of-the-way wall to lean them against to paint or varnish one side at a time.

Thanks all, I think I'll take them down one at a time when they have been hung. At least it will give me something to do before Christmas!

I would go with hang, leave them for a week to settle to make sure they dont need any adjustment then finish them
