Hi,

I'm due for a PC hardware upgrade.
The old E8400 is showing it's age now (full system specs in sig).

I'm wondering what the best CPU is to go for...
Bulldozer 8 core, 2500k or 2600k.

The only CPU heavy things I plan on doing a gaming & converting Blu-ray video files.
Not sure if I need the extra 4 cores of BD or HT on the 2600k.

Also, how much could I get for my old parts (£)?
E8400, Asus P5Q Pro, 4GB Dominator, OCZ Vendetta Cooler & Coolermaster HAF 932 (looking for a change).

Thanks.

Wait and see what Bulldozer brings to the table.

At this point there's no reliable way for you to compare Bulldozer and Sandy Bridge.

FYI you can't ask for price checks outside of the Members Market.

Access to the Members Market requires 250 posts as you already have the 90 days forum membership.

I'd assume hd video rending software if you where creating your own Blurays would use take advantage of 8 cores so would imaging Bulldozer would be better for that when it comes out. Has for games who knows? We'll have to wait and see.

Believe me your rig is way better than mine - as said, hang on for a little while longer ... it won't hurt

Wait untill Wednesday when BD arrives, pick the best performer, simple really.

"IF" it turns up  Then by the time benches are done, then there's the settling in period (if any problems) You just could be looking till after Xmas before you really find out.. So i would go with i5 2500k ....Just my two cents...Then again, I could be totally wrong ;)

Swifty

the big review sites will either already have their BD chips or they will be there with in an hour or so of realise so you would be looking at a good selection of benchmarks by friday and hopefully all these delays mean BD should be fairly glitch free as they have had soo much time to sort things out

I think it would be crazy not to wait till Wednesday at least. The major review sites will have comprehensive comparisons available from the moment the nda expires.

I know how you feel though. I have all items in my basket, just waiting to hit order. But i just need to wait for BD lol. To see if it will actually be worth it.... arrgh, I hate waiting!

If you're going to wait then wait till at least Christmas to make sure there are no probs with Bulldozer, don't jump on the new tech bandwagon on release. The i5 2500k is a proven very fast fantastic chip and will power your games for quite some time.

You could wait for ivy bridge which is I believe not far into the distant future, or even wait for Bulldozer 2, nvidia 600 series gpu's Gen 4 motherboards, there is always something on the horizon so just get what's best now and enjoy "i5"
