except that with server side hit reg if you have a bad ping you are punished and you go and look for a server closer to home. With client based it rewards a higher ping.
 
Finally got in for a game or 2.

Havnt PC gamed for about 4-5 years tbh always on xbox 360 but have done myself a new PC. Got my ass handed to me first game as i couldnt get the keys etc but a few more and it clicked and went 29-6 4 arms :)

Must say its just a better experience on PC just need some people to play with as all and i mean all my friends play 360.

Also can i map the extra buttons on my mouse for grenade/prone etc ? wouldnt let me do it for some reason is it taken out for beta ?

What mouse are you using ?

You cant bind them in game but if your mouse software supports macros then you can assign them like that. Just make sure that you insert a delay instruction between "key down" and "key up" otherwise the BF3 client will ignore it.
 
Server side works fine for many other games, don't see why they think going client side is the way forward.

Server side works fine for many other games, don't see why they think going client side is the way forward.

I can image why. It reduces the amount of work the server is having to do and pushes the work onto the client. This enables them to run a much slimmer server exe. And that unfortunately is as much as I can say due to NDA.

Cheers man! Pretty much all of us are closer to 30 :D . We're a pretty big clan these days hence the stopping of recruitment, our admins couldn't keep up haha. However what we're doing instead is inviting people to jump on voice com's with us and game, just go from there then. So good good, catch ya soon!
 
Im starting to think only twitchy fast gamers are noticing the cover/crappy client side deaths. Your average noob just finds one spot and cover/camps it anyway rarely contributing to actual map objectives. Thus not actually moving a great deal so hardly noticing the lag effect.

If i take a hit i can instantly react and get into cover... to then have another 3 or 4 hits kill me when i have been prone behind solid cover is utterly stupid, whats the point of trying you are 300ms infront of already dead.

the game cant take short range combat its evidently clear. Considering its built for crazy stuff like 2km headshots from Sniper rifles it makes sense but its still rubbish

I also think a lot of people are jumping on the bugs/glitches bandwagon because they suck at the game, but they're glitches and bugs, as i have encountered them, but i stick at it.

You don't have to be an amazing player to notice the problems with the game.

Correct me if I am wrong, but does this not mean that having the lowest possible ping is of paramount importance to the client?

I didn't say you did, i said some people are delibrately jumping on the bandwagon because they can't seem to do well, and there is the other lot that are genuinely unable to play because of the bugs/glitches that occur for them more often than for other people.

I get my share of problems, but i don't get them as often as other people do, so it differs from person to person.

Agreed.
If they're going to continue with client-side hit reg then the lag compensation code needs improving massively. Think I already said it in this thread but to drop prone behind a thick concrete wall (or move behind cover in some other way) and die a second later makes it very unenjoyable.

Those that lag more seem to have a huge advantage, I've often emptied a ton of rounds into an enemy with the hit indicator flashing up and then been killed by them despite moving behind cover our otherwise out of the line of fire and they'll still somehow have 100% health :rolleyes:
 
Well, I've played quite a bit of the Beta now and I think it's good. Metro is very boring after a while though but hey ho.

I missed out on BF, BF2 etc so can only compare to BC2 which I liked a lot. and this already appeals more so I'm looking forward to the full release.
