**Tesla Model S** The first nail in the internal combustions engines coffin?

I think the first nail came along when we realised that petrol / oil was a limited resource :p

The car looks nice though, and is at a much nicer price point and size that you'll be seeing all the Hollywood greats in one soon! :D

Looks like a bit of an abandoned Jag / Aston lovechild.

We now have electric buses. Great as you get Wi-Fi but dangerous as you can't hear the bloody things coming when you're crossing the road. That is all.

Hopefully this will cause some ripples and make people realize an electric car can look 'normally' good looking and not trying to look futuristic.

I can't wait for electric cars to become mainstream (read cheap enough for me) for me boring driving duties like commuting, visiting family etc.

Then i can keep my scooby purely for fun on the weekends/on the track!

Under what conditions was the 300 mile range achieved?

300 miles of motorway driving, or 300 miles of constant 40mph?

Maybe if I never, or at least very rarely, did any long-distance driving of 200+ miles at a time...

You mean you don't do like everyone else and just walk out? :( I'm suprised there aren't many many more pedestrians killed every day.

Oh come on. Yes, of course that's what I do

If you do get the chance to hear one, it's wierd. There is no variation in the tone of the motor. It doesn't rise or fall, it's sounds as if its either on or off and makes very little noise at all which is rather odd for a 10 tonne + vehicle.

I'm all for motoring advances in technology but hardly hearing the vehicle you are driving or being driven in will take a lot of getting used to, particularly in a "sports" car.

most people don't and there's fast charge. Do 200+ miles of driving and stopping for 45mins for a full recharge isn't much of a problem(most people would want a break anyway) and that time for charging is falling.

until you can charge them in under 5 minutes then it will never replace a liquid fuel

B@

It already is. Most people simply don't do that many miles.
Of course it won't suite everyone. But by the time the markets are catering for long distance driving. The technology and infastucture will be massively different.

Just look at what the country was like 30years ago and see how much things have changed.

Wasn't a dig at you, just annoys me every day on the way to work watching people just walk out and start crossing the road without a single glance at what might be coming.
