Nexus Prime

It seems once again that people are missing why this mobile is different to the others and is good/worth getting for that alone:

STOCK ANDROID/OFFICIAL GOOGLE MOBILE

Also is having a 720P curved screen not good enough?

For me that is well worth getting this over a GS 2 alone.

But I can see why it would be pretty pointless for the people that already own a GS 2/sensation.

People are not missing that at all. It just seems bizarre to upgrade one thing and downgrade another. Why not just use the same bloody camera as the Galaxy S II? WHY! WHY!

I moved from a Nexus S to an SII because the benefits of the hardware outweigh the benefits of the OS. I'm sure that the SII will get ICS soon enough!

TI OMAP 4460 (SGX540 GPU) dual-core Cortex A9 processor clocked at 1.2GHz
5-megapixel camera on the back, 1.3-megapixel in the front

A bit disappointing.

EDIT - looks like samsung keeps the best for in-house

That plus pentile screen is really disappointing. :(

The 1.2 in my SGSII clocks to 1.5 very comfortably though, and 1.6 if I don't mind it running warm.

So over the SII you get an extra 100mAh, more internal storage, a higher resolution and bigger screen. Everything else seems to be a downgrade, correct me if I'm wrong please.

250mAh less if you can't get an extended battery for the Prime. Does this have HDMI?

I desperately wanted this to be better than the SGSII so I could get PS3 controller support and HDMI output for PSOne/N64 gaming in hotels when travelling.

I do agree it is bizarre that, but is it not also dependant on the software side of things that gives the quality, so the image could be just as good and you wouldn't really notice the difference unless you are really looking hard :P

E.g. the desire at stock for video recording motion is poor but with a ROM it is a bit better.

The software does make a difference but why should people have to settle for an inferior camera to the Galaxy S II, Xperia Arc and iPhone 4S on the Google flagship phone that is being released AFTER all of the aforementioned devices.

I think those specs are wrong and it will be 8MP.

Well for starters comparing those 2 is a bit unfair since one is single core and the other is dual core :p

And I would also take the GS 2 over the nexus s, I think everyone would tbh.

If your rooted and put custom ROMs on, yeah probably, however if you stick with official stuff, probably not, be at least 3 or 4 months or more probably till you get a decent ICS ROM where everything works the way it should.

Specs are definitely disappointing. The camera should be 8mp at the very least. Overall it's nothing better than the GS2, apart from ICS and the screen, so it still might be worth getting but it's not as good as it should be IMO.

True that.

Maybe to keep costs down a bit? In order to get more people to buy it and to experience true stock android and the way it should be.

As the mobile is going to be pretty expensive as it is I reckon anyway since it is googles official mobile.

Another disappointment... As kona said OEMs keep the best stuff for their own brand. (unless those specs are wrong)

For me, SGS2/Note > iPhone 4S > Nexus Prime.

Best wait a few more months for the good stuff.

But I can see why it would be pretty pointless for the people that already own a GS 2/sensation.

People are looking for something that would make them trade in their nearly new phone. A speed decrease with a few extra bits and bobs is unlikely to do that.

That will have to have a meaty battery if its a 4.6" screen.

Have a look at your battery usage and I would wager that screen is the largest drain by far.

Them downgrading the camera makes no sense whatsoever... I really don't understasnd why they would do that when the 8MP sensor in the SGSII already exists and is a proven performer. Especially when the new iPhone 4S, a phone it will be directly competing against, has an 8MP camera. If true then it's a silly, almost niggly decision imo, and very annoying coming from an SGS II.

Yeah as said it does seem pointless changing from a gs 2 to this, but personally for me I would still take the prime (if I didn't have any of the other dual core mobiles) for these reasons:

- 720P curved screen
- Stock google mobile (a very big plus for me)

Also don't forget that this mobile is clean android, no bloat, no custom skins so therefore the speed shouldn't be that much different if anything it should perform very similarly maybe even better than the top dual core mobiles at the minute.

It will no doubt be the largest drain, but the same goes for other mobiles like the sensation, but again you don't have all the custom company stuff running on the mobile like with the GS 2 hubs, touchwiz etc. on HTC devices you have sense running, which is a battery drain as well.

Well the Nexus S wasn't really the flagship phone people were expecting either when it was launched either was it? All phones get ICS released to them anyway so ICS being on the Prime isn't a unique selling point.

No, it wasn't.

We were hoping this would be, and it isn't really.

Having said that, those are just specs that BGR could have made up, so don't get too worried just yet.

The same was said about the Nexus S as well :p

I'll probably end up kicking back and wait for Samsung's next in house beast if those are true specs.
