I received a replacement 3GS from Apple a few months ago, will it be an unlocked device?

I have a 3Mifi data only SIM that I tried, but iTunes said this:

Don't really have any others to try, and I can't get through to Apple without paying £25 for a support token (that's really stupid!).

You'll need to first set it up using a sim from whatever network you were on at the time you got the replacement, then you can contact the network to have it unlocked.

Oh it works fine with my SIM, was just wondering if the device would be able to support other SIMs.

Just for info really when I come to sell it, I gather it's locked to Vodafone right now (my provider)?

Yeah vodafone can unlock it, take it into any vodafone store and pay them 20 scoops, they send off a request to apple who unlock it within about 3 days. Then plug it into itunes and the unlock should apply it's self.
