could you work these hours?

why are you only getting 4 hours sleep in a 7.5 hour gap, if you could maximize this time you should be able to get a lot more sleep in there

also its only 1 day per week, a lot of people are out of work at the moment just look for another job while you are at work as you can use the laptop it saves sitting at home looking for jobs not getting paid thus saving your savings for when you need them

Wage and hours suck :o

I do the same job (Not something im happy about :p)

I do 4on4off 12 hours. Before OT im on 19k and with the overtime i do in the year i end up with 22-23k a year.

23 days a year holiday. So book 8 days for 20 days off :D

It is a VERY boring (And crappy) job tho. Stay in school kids ;)

get out asap is all i can say, easier said that done. security guards in my work are on 12 hours shifts which rotate every 3 days between days (6am - 6pm) and nights (6pm - 6am) then three days off. sucks.

Not for me OP - I work at 7am and I thought that was bad! :) Can you not use the time to study for a new career?

Can't you study p/t instead of watching films? :)

Sounds a very good idea to me, perhaps a open university course or something.

Or you could do surveys on line whilst at work to make some money?

I am sure the first week would be fun, getting paid for sitting down and surfing the net. But i would certainly get bored quite quickly. I need to be active.

Can you not sort out of heist at work? give you something to do? someone to chase?

Keep working this **** job and search whilst you work!

Don't leave as you never know when the next opportunity may come up and you might end up taking something rubbish again due to your money shortage.

Have you tried contacting G4S?

I hear they are paying £11 - 12 an hour.

Don't leave there until you have another job to go to. Being employed makes you more employable :)

I would imagine the killer thing with these shifts is the sitting around watching the clock, nothing but nothing drags time like this, it's much better to be busy as time flies. Stick it out while you look elsewhere.

Get a job before leaving though, jobs aren't growing on trees these days, unless you're a tree surgeon.

As someone already said, sometimes we just need to work to pay the bills - means to an end.

EDIT: i thought security guard get like £12+ per hour

I thought it was minimum wage since 1000 people are qeueing up for 1 job which basically consists of sitting down and doing nothing all through the shift.
Well actually I should have said 'I know' because I have at least 5 mates and a Step Mother who work security.

4 hours is good in a 7 hour gap IMO, your boss OP is ripping the urine out of you badly indeed, look for a new job now. I'm sure your boss will fill your place with an immigrant.

I used to be a security guard (was one for just under 2 years) and did hours like that.
The best solution for it is to quit being a security guard and go get a job where you use your mind as I was slowly losing mine sitting there, bored out of my skull.

Unless you have to do it (family to support etc), you have no reason to be there and you are worth more than that!

I would never works those hours, but dont quit until you find a new job - being in work helps you find a new job. Use the laptop to job search :)
