Hey guys , ive just ordered 2 of these as part of my new system!

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-133-MS&groupid=701&catid=1914&subcat=1812

Obviously these cards already have a bit of an overclock on them already and as im going to be running them in SLI i need to be careful as 2 cards will generate more heat than just one , however i was just hoping for advice on anyone who has a similar setup , how much farther people push these cards for a 24/7 overclock .

Will be cooled using the cooler thats on them so air-cooled just as they are .
Thanks for any advice , i really cant afford to push these to far and blow one haha !

dude, you have a grands worth of msi goodness coming there, seriously there is absolutely no need to overclock them. None. Not even a little bit. Just sit back, turn everything to ultra and enjoy them for the next 3-4 years... :D

Hehe you are probably right, i just love to tinker with things , mebbe i should allow them to run free before hitting them with a whip for more ! :D

What resolution will you be gaming at?

If above 1920x1080/1200 then overclocking will help raise those FPS on a few games. 900Mhz core is nice sweet spot for most GTX580s.

They will be powering 2 x 27" monitors , gaming is done on a Dell u2711 ultrasharp monitor at a resolution of 2560 x 1440 , the other monitor is just an iiyama 27" monitor running at 1920 x 1080 .

2 of these in SLI ..you don't need to overclock, they are way powerfull

2-way SLI of GTX580s would struggle in some games under 1920x1080, such like The Witcher 2 (with Ubersampling), Metro 2033 (with MSAA 4X + DOF), Shogun 2 (DX11 max). I have no doubt you'll be unsatisfied with the performance under 2 x 27".

Aye , its a big ask to power 2 27" , thats what was making me wonder about overclocking them , im a bit scared of damaging them considering the cost, bits just arrived , i guess we will know before the coming weekend is finished :)

Gaming at 2560x1440 means that your choice of 2x GTX580 Lightning 3Gb was a very good choice. I would definitely consider overclocking them both if gaming at that res and playing games such as BF3, The Witcher 2, Metro etc.
Like i said 900Mhz~ is a nice place for GTX580s in terms of power : heat : performance.

Some people are never happy!

MSI GTX 580 Lightning Xtreme Edition 3072MB x2 (SLI) will "struggle" @ 1920*1080 in Witcher 2, Metro, and Shogun 2 at max settings?

C'mon! Do you really suggest 3 way SLi to run these 3 games @ 1080? Even with 3GB per GPU?

Define struggling?;)

Bullcrap! For starters he said he would be gaming on the ultrasharp, not the other screen. Secondly, Ubersampling makes the witcher2 look worse not better, Metro should be fine, and same for shogun 2. I game on the same screen with 2 overclocked 6950/70's and I get awesome fps in most games.

I have to say that when 1grands worth of cards can't make mincemeat of a game its because the game is poorly coded, not for a lack of power!

sorry bigjimmy but one definitely cant max out these games on 27" high res monitors without struggling badly , i want a system that doesnt break sweat at all , so its not the worst 1k spent ever, not by a long shot :p

Exactly! Now go buy, install, overclock and bench! :D
