I've started building my first ever gaming rig and thought before I check with you guys for advice

The computer will be mainly for Railworks 3/Flight Sim X, watching HD/Blu-Ray media and plugging guitar into.

I'm buying the parts over time out of each pay cheque so money is a major issue. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

not sure hwo much the extra cores will be, might be worth checking in the games forum/fsx thread, to consider the 2500K sandybridge over the amd hex core.

is the blue ray drive a retail version, as i've seen mention its better to go that way for the playback software included.

Yeah the optical is retail, I did have the option of oem but decided against it.

Regarding extra cores, I'm aware overclocking would be beneficial for simming etc but I'm not too confidant going into my first build which is why I went for the Phenom, and as I understand it, the intel k series is more for overclocking?

it is, but it is really simple to do with the new K series, plus you've found your way to this forum, so a quick check of the overclocking forum, and if required a post would soon get you sorted out.

Ok sounds like a good idea, I'll go have a look around. In the mean time though, does my original spec look the right shape? it's been put together from my own poking around so I'm not sure if I've got it all right

yup looks fine.

thing to remember if you go for the K series is the processor, when matched with the right sort of mobo, has onboard graphics, so the kit can be tested etc while saving for the graphics card.

be worth planning out what your going to buy and in what order, depending on how you split your funds, to try and make sure you can test as much of it as u can to ensure its all ok.
