2500k @5ghz, Nice one, you still buying loads of cpu's to get the right one lol, (you had some cracking e8*** dual cores mate), thought about sb myself, but an i7 920 at 4.2ghz is already overkill for games. Just gotta wait for new gpu's now. 470 sli copes ok with bf3.

Well, i hope it turns out ok. I love bfbc2, i can run it maxed, 32x aa and it looks great. But, its still a bit buggy, punkbuster and msi afterburner issues, white screens, bsods, black screens, sound juddering etc. But when you get over theese niggles, its a great game. I hope bf3 is as good, as i love the beta so far.

I'm still very hopeful. If i could change just one aspect of the game though, it would be the unlocks. I think it would be a much better game if most of then were removed and brilliant if everything was just available to everyone from the start. As it is, it is almost enough to ruin it imo.

It's 5GHz when only 1 thread is hammered...dynamic core clocking. It's always sitting at 4.6GHz with all 4 cores active with BF3.

And I got this CPU from my buddy who works for Intel. My 1 and only Sandy Bridge I've purchased. I live in Hillsboro, Oregon where all the fab plants are :)

If you upgrade wait til Ivy Bridge or even later...the i7 is an awesome CPU and with a newer chip you won't see much except for lower power usage which you'd pay for with the cost of the new chip.

4.6ghz is still pretty impressive though for all cores. My 920 isnt a great chip tbh, it needs 1.3125 vcore for 4.2ghz, but it runs cool enough. 76c max in intel burn test, 65c in games. I guess ive stuck with x58 due to being a fan of sli, (had gtx 275's and now 470's in this rig). Dual x16, no matter how small a difference to dual x8 has kept me there tbh. Power use is fairly high, the cards are clocked at 750/1500/1674, on stock volts of 0.987. Theyll do 800/1600/1700 on 1.012, but the temps get high, therefore more noise. Power draw at the wall is 630w, psu is a corsair hx850w.

I kinda agree, although theres a lot of satisfaction in earning unlocks and a drive there to get the next one. Being given them wouldnt be as fun IMO, i'd prefer to earn them.
If i could have it my way though, i'd have a couple of default unlocks, which could be removed and replaced with unlocks of personal preference.
Take the jets, if you dont hog them for the first week, hell even the first 24hrs (seeing as we'll get it 3 days after USA, thats not great), your going to find yourself going into the air at a serious disadvantage as others have unlocked air-to-air rockets, flairs, things like that. Meanwhile, you're equipped with just machine guns. You're a sitting duck so earning those pts to get the essential unlocks to survive is going to be so much harder.

Im not fussed about flying jets, or heli's (i'll go gunner though), but i can see if i ever fancied jumping in later on not only will i be learning the ropes with experienced pilots, but they'll have far superior firepower and evasive measures.

So for me, in an ideal world, i'd have some detachable unlocks as basic kit, and if you want to remove those and slap on something fancy when you've earned them then fair enough, but starting with nothing seems a harsh lesson.

Apart from recon, I think engineer and support can be used as assault aswell lol :p

All three classes; assault, engineer and support get the same default guns. However imo engineer has the best fire power and is more cooler (rpg, stinger) than assault.

When beta started I was focussing on assault mainly. Now switching to engineer I am not sure if I want to go back to assault. Engineer is the main man for vehicle jobs (repairing/destroying) :p

Edit: Is it possible for other classes to get stinger missile?

Each class fills distinctly different roles within the game, if you play in a proper squad you need all 3 of the 'assault' classes to maximise your efficiency, support to lay down heavy fire and close down lanes of attack for the enemy, the engi deals with any vehicle threats which can seriously outmatch a squad if left to their own devices and you need the assault to keep people in the game, reviving and medkits are a quicker solution to respawning! The last slot can be anything, recon has its value as a long range spotter but imo at least until he unlocks the mortar he's the weak link as far as im concerned (recon is my favourite class :( ), you'd be better off in most cases with another assault or engi in most encounters.

I'm quite comfortable playing any class so I usually just have a look at what the team us lacking before I spawn and go for that, you maximise your points that way too, everyone's a winner :)

I find the recon with his spawn beacon is indispensable in rush but also very useful in quickly recapping points in conquest.

I must say, I think the revive mechanic can be improved. The player on the floor needs to have a better idea of how close a medic is and whether to wait or respawn.

It's a significant advantage in all game modes to have decent medics working to revive players and reduce the ticket usage.

maybe like bf2 when you're dead you can see medics on the mini map (like they can you) so you could tell how far away they are?

I haven't encountered any cheaters and I've been playing since the 27th. I think it's just a mixture of lag and glitches.

I get accused of cheating all the time. "!!!! OMFG. HE SHOT ME IN THE HEAD. HE MUST BE CHEATING!"

lol there are cheats out there. Aimbots are deffinately been used but thankfully very rare. On Metro I've spawned and immedeiately been shot dead from the other side of the map followed by 3 others on my team. The guy freely admitted cheating knowing nothing could be done other than finding another server.

Once PB is up and running and more importantly adminned servers none of this will be a problem.

Oh believe me there are a lot of cheaters currently, there is a large sticky thread on the EA forums with some pretty well known cheaters. It isn't all glitches and bugs.

yeah, I think I've had a couple of glitchers - really, really don't understand people using hacks, though - I just find it helpful to picture them with their foreveralone faces, mindlessly clicking away.

I had some great team play on Caspian Border last night. That feeling of a band of people, not even in the same squad, all deciding "not one step back!" and holding some point, is just so "Battlefield" :D

best way to fly the jets is to do quick attack runs,
stay on the ceiling or real low just ouside the main play area.
if you get hit then pull out to get the health back to 100 or you will just die.
use airbrakes for tight turns and if you get a lock on from a stinger/heatseeker then just go crazy doing dives / turns / rolls till you shake it off.

most important thing to remember and this applys to all vehicles, if your health gets close to 0 then bail out asap, if it reaches 0 you will not be able to eject or get out of vehicles. if your health goes below 50 you need to land and repair or you will burn to death, i have also been in a tank that had 55% health but was on fire so health started draining away so just be aware that not only enemies can kill you but also your own vehicles ;)

i'm not that bad in them and i use mouse and keyboard, just cant get the hang of joysticks for flying strangely enough :/

Agree with this. Was using UMP with recon yesterday. Being able to push forward and then provide a spawn point was invaluable.
