UK uncut NHS protection protest - Westminster bridge today 1pm.

Since when was marching a crime?

Since when were UKuncut planning to march?

They are planning to obstruct london bridge.

On Sunday 9th October, just days before the bill moves to the Lords, join UK Uncut in a spectacular act of mass civil disobedience to block the bill. By blocking Westminster Bridge we symbolically block the bill from getting from Parliament to our hospitals. Yes, it will be disruptive. Yes, it will stop the traffic. But this is an emergency and we have to shout as loud as we can.

Get to the middle of Westminster Bridge shortly before 1pm. When Big Ben strikes one, pick one of the tactics below and help block the bridge:

From the website linked by the OP.

So a protest/march that takes an approved route approved by the Police is a crime?

You're again confusing a protest with civil disobedience.

They have not been given permission to do what they are planning to do, namely block the road with deliberate obstruction (as opposed to marching, for example).

Well the Met haven't banned it.

Obstructing roads is criminal behaviour

See section 137 of the highways act 1980.

As long as the public highway is not completely and intentionally blocked then no offence is being made. They have the right to gather and protest as well as a right to assemble on a public highway.

Well the Met haven't banned it.

They don't need to, the law is already in place. The met only have to exercise specific power to ban a march when the march would otherwise be legal, but there are (for example) public order concerns.

The met has absolutely zero requirement to state that they will be enforcing existing law on a given date.

But that is exactly what they intend to do, that's the point. They've even spelt it out on their website...

Good luck!

You won't get much if any support on here :) but good luck and have a good day!

Ps, stay safe :)

Went to the anti cuts march with the NUT earlier in the year, fantastic, brilliant and quite scary day out :)

I apologise for having a broad range of knowledge and understanding.

You may now return to your despair at not sharing it.

Because we would never ever want to be disobedient would we...

A tiny minority being disobedient should never be considered in any form of political debate or discussion, otherwise you just end up with politics based on the loudest shouters.

Again, I also refer to the fact that what UKuncut are calling a protest about has no actual resemblance to the bill actually going through parliament...

Hahaha. smugness and arrogance as well, your traits are shining through well today :)

Of course I know that blocking a Public Highway is an offence, I wouldn't have known the actual section and paragraph, because you know what, I really couldn't care a less to either memorise such knowledge or Google it in such a debate as this.

My despair comes from your apparent obsequious attitude, to describe this action in such rhetoric language, please.

Well, your response smacked of jealousy and dismissal, so I don't see why I shouldn't respond in kind.

The lack of evidence based debates is one of the biggest problems with so many posters on this board, they just spout what they think, rather than what is actually the case.

It's a problem for UKuncut as well it seems, given their position on the bill going through parliament doesn't actually relate in the slightest to the bill going through parliament.

Should we ignore the law if it is a cause we agree with? Should we diminish the actions of those we agree with?

Direct action like this is the last resort of a vocal minority without popular support, to try and make their voice seem louder than their numbers suggest.
