Macbook Air or Pro?

Hi all,

I was inclined to go with the Air because it comes with SSD and is thinner and cheaper than the Pro but I heard recently something about the Air not being upgradable and the Pro has more future in it with regards to hardware.

Am I on the right tracks here or can someone advise me further?

In other words, what's your compelling reason for choosing Pro over the Air?
 
I literally <3 my MacBook Pro.

Amazing piece of kit.

I also love the high ress / anti glare screen :)
 
13" has a better screen that the 13" pro though, if i was buying again id buy the 13" air

but 13" pro over the 11 air
 
My 15" pro has done 2-2.5 years of hard work and good service, its taken traveling a few hundred miles ever couple of weeks in good nature, provided FM in airports and other random places, helped me type uni work frantically and been the envy of pretty much everyone (including my own computer illiterate mother).

Id recommend one so much if you don't need the travel size as much, 15" can get a little bulky and heavy in your backback if its coming everywhere with you. This is why I'm looking to get a 13" air at some point in the next 3 months as taking the 15" on the trip in and out of london every day for uni will be more of a stress, which is a shame as my current one has been amazing (and gets to become mum's).

The 15" will quite happily replace a decent spec'd pc (other than only having an upper mid table graphics card opposed to top end) that will have a 3-4 hours battery life playing games any where you want. Pretty much the most compelling reason to have it :) (plus whacking an SSD in it made mine amazing)

The air is much lighter smaller and simpler to carry (the 13" pro is a half way house but doesn't have a dedicated graphics card making it a bit silly) but doesn't have graphical grunt, but chances are if you need something of that size graphical power isn't really the top priority.

So yeah just imagine where and why you'll be using it more than anything else :)
 
I've never really had any problem with my 15" either, amazing. Take it most places with me, can sometimes be a ball ache carrying it hope in my shoulder bag but hey ho :p

Does being macbook users ever bring about any limitations for you on a daily basis?

Limitations? Not really.

I take it pretty much everywhere with me and it does everything I need it to.
 
I have, and it is just as capable in those regards as anything else. In fact, it could be argued it is more capable for programming because you get OS X specific tools, you can virtualise or bootcamp windows for windows specific tools, and the same with Linux (though, the latter isn't necessarily needed).

Whereas you can only legitimately run OS X on Apple hardware.

Thats the only advantage of the Pro is the hi-res screen. The MBA screen isn't that reflective, so is already anti-glare.

I sold my MBP and went with the MBA and it's the best laptop I've ever owned.

After using the MBA, the MBP feels very cumbersome.

It depends on your usage.. to suggest the faster CPUs, the potentially more memory, the larger storage capacity in either HDD or SSD form, and better GPUs aren't an advantage is a little silly.

I mean, the advantages of the Macbook Air, again, depending on your requirements may outweigh the advantages of the Macbook Pro for you, such as it's thinner, lighter form factor, for easier portability.

I do web design and have no problems whatsoever. Use dreamweaver happily enough and coupled with xampp as a testing server works great :)
