OCUK GTX 460 768MB Reliable?

Hi, what are these like, has anyone bought one?

Do they overclock well and what is the fan noise like?

what kind of heat do they give off?

Im only going to be using it as a dedicated PhysX card. :)

Thanks.

perhaps pay the extra buck and getting the 1gb version would be better.
Would make a world of difference for the higher resolutions..

Sure the 768mb is good enough, but why settle for good, when a little extra cash could land you with a better 1gb card...

The fan on them arent too loud, arent the quietest ive heard by miles though. but the fan noise isnt ott, and anoying... its livable and goes un-noticed when you get used to it or your concentrating on a game..

Heat wise, it would depend on what cooling layout your case is.
Mine is 2x 120mm front, 1x 140mm top and 1x 120mm rear, and i was sitting around 30C idle and 57C under load, but i did open mine and and perform a cooling mod, ie, remove the junky thermal pads and placed in alloy heatsinks on ram chips, using thermal compound cement to keep them on permanently...

and the overclocking.. well overclocking depends on how cool you can make it run, the cooler it runs, the more it can be overclocked stable... same with any hardware, cpu etc etc.. But from standard they arent too bad at all

Hi there,

May I ask why you are buying a dedicated PhysX card?

There are so few games that use PhysX properly that it may be better off spending the ~£80 towards a faster primary graphics card (or a second one in SLI/CF) or a better monitor.

To answer the question in the OP, this page gives you a good idea of how the GTX 460 768MB with the stock cooler (same type as used in the OCUK version) runs in terms of heat and noise (the other pages show how it performs in games).

Bought two last week for a SLI setup. They Idle at around 33 degrees and the highest ive seen them go is 55 degrees while playing ARMA 2.

Ive overclocked them to 800 MHZ and they run just fine.

Fan noise is barely audible unless you turn them up full and then the noise is negligible.

If your on a budget they're a decent card.

thanks, I wear headphones with the sound up full when gaming, so the noise would have to be monstrous for me to hear it.

well i already have a graphics card good enough to run most games at full, and the card was cheap. im also looking forward to Batman AC which uses it and Arma 3 is using it next year also. I have also heard rumours that BF3 is using it but i haven't seen any confirmation yet.

Last I heard BF3 is fully CPU based physics - don't think they are using PhysX but I haven't actually checked (pretty sure its Havok tho) but I do know for a fact that the physics in the game does not gain any advantage from GPU PhysX.

oh well, i'll probably play arma 3 and batman ac to death anyway, I had a free slot and i figured i might aswell get the best out of some games. Is mirrors edge any good? some people say it is amazing, some say it is crap, lol.
