E92 M3 with new engine?

I don't think it should really affect the price much if at all.

Maybe it's an irrational concern, but I'd be worry that the QA/QC at a dealership wouldn't be as high as the factory. After all the factory sticks them in all day every day and you've got to wonder how many engine swaps your average dealership has done.

Regardless I'd want to know exactly why it was necessary and all the associated paperwork at the very least

Agreed that it's suspicious given the new engine - He'd probably have been better off not actually mentioning it, cos it just gets peoples minds going.

That is an absolutely AMAZING price tho. The E92 has had some of THE worst depreciation in recent times - you could get a BRAND NEW one during the credit crunch for a little over 30 grand. Dealers were so desparate to shift them.

Wrong sized engine at the wrong time, launched at a point where we didn't know if the cash machines would even have cash in them on monday morning a few times that year.

Unbeatable at that price - I darent even go online and check to see how much mine would cost now, given what i paid for it ... and i go back to having fun in it ;)

Warranty's cover manufacturing faults not abuse by the owner, so that would not bother me, but I would ask what happened when I viewed the car.

The car is priced slightly higher because of the new engine, clutch, flywheel, tyres, brakes and wheels just being re-furbished. The car is a one of and wont find another one for the price in this condition.

I wasn’t aware parts replaced under warranty like this should warrant a higher resale price at this age and mileage since it isn't actually in a factory built condition, esp re-engine. Also this guy can’t spell it’s a one off not one of. This annoys me more than the below.

The car has been lowered with Eibach 30mm Pro Kit Springs, original to hand

Why would you do this on an M3???

The one in the second add looks and feels better

If you're talking E92 M3's I don't think thats true, unless you can provide a reliable source.

Have a look around the pistonheads forums.

Back when i owned a 911 C2 i used to check the M forums on there regularly, and there were a number of tales of dealers offering cancelled orders in the low thirties.

One of my friends managed to bag himself a brand new 911 turbo (Series 1 997) for 20 grand under retail around the same time. He sold it 2 years later for MORE than he paid for it (84k was what he paid). Similar cancelled order, but through a broker.

In late '08 and early '09 it was fire sale time at luxury car dealers.

Dunno about lowering, but the EDC option definately makes a difference to handling, so there is a case for playing around with the suspension if that is what floats your boat.

30mm sounds like it's gonna look a bit 'chav' tho.

I would certainly ask at point of looking at it why it had a new engine, if everything was above board with invoices for the work, and everything else was ok, I would probably take it.

So how does a dealer make any money selling a £60k car for ~£30k?

Dr House, are you looking to buy? They are both low spec, and I personally wouldnt be interested in one with a new engine just because he has not given a reason, so was it down to a fault with the car, or the owners lack of care?

I think lack of care would mean it wouldn't be replaced under warranty.
