Archos G9 series - the best budget Android tablets??

this tablet looks great in the video clips. apparently the most basic model is out now/soon for £200:D
very tempting

Where have you seen it advertised for £200..?!

When I have a look around I can find very little about the shop price except that it seems to be the same in pounds as it does in dollars :( Hopefully it will be as cheap as you have noted.

^ It's been known for some time.

Unfortunately the screen quality seems to have deteriorated quite a bit on these recent demos, it looks like a £200 mirror now :(

starting to see conflicting reports of cpu speed. 1ghz for the basic seems to be confirmed however the higher spec version seems to be listed as 1.2ghz instead of the 1.5ghz first thought

Early review here

Seems like a very good budget tablet. Plays every video file that has been thrown at it and has Samba support out the box. Battery life seems also to be good.

However I won't be ordering until the screen warping issue has been fixed. Pretty awful how this problem wasn't resolved during prototyping/testing. It seems like there isn't enough protection around the back of the LCD panel, resulting in the display warping to your touch when picked up and held from the rear casing. I am glad I didn't jump straight in with buying this tablet as I'd be feeling pretty annoyed!! This issue is only affecting the 8" model, apparently.

Archos have unofficially stated that this issue will be corrected in the next production run. But it would be nice to read a statement from the company addressing the issue and informing when this new run will be available.

Once this stupid design flaw has been corrected; I'm definitely in.

Guys, I can get the Archos 80 G9 Turbo for 300CHF (£200)... surely that has to be worth a pump? Reviews seem positive all-round, and 200 notes for a 1.2/.5ghz (specs on site say 1.2 but this new batch is due in mid-December when I believe new revision is out http://digitec.ch/ProdukteDetailsDruck1.aspx?Artikel=221712) tablet with decent iPad2-like resolution certainly doesn't seem a bad idea. All I want is mostly something for browsing in bed at home and watching the odd movie on trips. :)

the 1.2 is the new batch of g9 turbo's the original g9 were only 1ghz. Just ordered one of the 80 g9 turbo's.

lots of sites said the original 80 g9 had a design flaw to do with the chassis, but archos said it was a bad batch. That's why I waited till the turbo model came out to make sure i didn't get one of the "bad Batch" (hopefully) .

If it's naff I'll give it to my sister and get a prime or galaxy 7.7 if they ever come out

Yup, Archos have publically acknowledged the screen problem, and will fix it on the new production batches. I still think that for the money the Turbo version is a good buy... though i think i'll wait for the OMAP 4460 1.5ghz version before I click the buy button.
