AMD Bulldozer Finally!

Yeah would have definitely had to get a K version for overclocking, when you say cost a bomb you mean like 990x territory?

Top end six core ~990x pricing. Other six core ~980 pricing. Quad core ~2600k pricing but its got a partially locked multiplier so kinda pointless. Id expect motherboard prices to be more than z68 as well. Basically similar to x58/1366 pricing.

Seems a lot of dough but probably well worth it. Ivy coming next year but don't think I can wait that long.

Nice one dude.

well we can hope 2nd gen improves IPC :) for me the shocker is the power draw, it will be good to see if the 8120 95W can negate that a bit and still reach the 5Ghz under water barrier.

I am a software developer and working on software of my own that is artificial intelligence based. It's written in Visual Studio 2010, and executes in parallel over many hundreds of threads if required.

If used commercially I would need many servers/PC's sharing load, and working 24/7 processing floating point numbers in parallel.

The budget 8 core FX looks good for my situation, and would certainly work out cheaper then Intels current 6 core CPU's. The only worrying thing is reading on TomsHardware VisualStudio 2010 needs an update so compiler is optimised for BD. Hopefully Microsoft will resolve this.

Canceled!
Reasons:

1. Paper launch.
2. Power draw when oc'd:

My 6950>70 xfire and the oc'd 8150 would struggle with my 750w psu.

Anyway, lost £55 selling my sabertooth to my brother. :(

Lesson learned for next time, don't gamble on new tech that's on the horizon, I could have been using i5 for about 6 weeks now.

Parting thought before leaving the thread as it's went really down hill with all the ha ha's....

Some folks really need to grow up a bit, here's a link for you if you don't want too:
