How often do you change your car oil?

I used to change my oil in my last diesel car every 6k as I was doing super high mileage. In the E60, as it's only a lease car, I just keep with whatever the service schedule says.
You'll be surprised to know that in 56,000 it's had one oil change at the dealer, and the airfilter has only been changed once, by me.

I don't trust bmw's long life services which is why I do a full service every year on mine. When I brought my car 2nd hand the gear box oil was so thick and black yet it had all the stamps in the book in the right place.

*Bought.

BMW will have worked out the usable life of the oil and based their recommended change within that period, so there's no real reason not to "trust" it as such. Although it can't hurt to chance the oil more frequently, it's just not really worth it.

Every 5000 miles, but my engine is running a bit more power than the manufacturer intended. At stock power I doubt I'd bother if the oil I was suing was a good one.

When the manufacturers service schedule tells me to. I don't claim to know more about my cars engine than the people who made it simply because I have access to google, so feel no need to deviate.

I agree to a certain extent, but every owner I've spoken to about my car says 20k/2 years is too long for the engine. I wouldn't do 20k so it would be every 2 years, surely on a performance model like mine it's worth getting an oil change done every year?

When the computer tells me it needs it.

My old Celica was every 6 months though, but that was a modified turbo engine.

Main car is on a fixed service schedule instead of the stupid variable one which you can program it to calculate.

So every 10 or 12k (i forget which), car gets 5w30 castrol edge fully synth, new filter and plugs.

Every 10k as per the manufacturers recommendation. I do use the longlife oil though because I think that because it is more expensive it must do a better job :o
