The SGS2 is only using one core in those tests.
Where are you getting that from? I don’t see any reference to only one core being used. It looks like a fair test to me and matchs all the other sites testing. Plus the SGS2 only has 1 GPU core so those tests are fair.

I am getting it from my own knowledge that Android 2.x only uses one core for browsing, unlike Honeycomb hence the massive disparity (double) between the Galaxy Tab 8.9 and other Tegra 2 devices in that list. It's a particular test on an area that wasn't optimised on Android 2.x (not that it really needed to be apart from to make pretty graphs like this) so it's not really a very good reflection on actual perfomance.

At this point in time I would wait for the Nexus Prime to see what that offers.

I switched from an iP4 to a GS2 not long ago and both phones have their good points, you can't really go wrong with either but overall I prefer the GS2 now as I am getting more and more familiar with Android. I also hated iTunes and simple things like drag and drop just make the GS2 so much more user friendly.

But doesn’t the 4s use the GPU more than the CPU like browser acceleration via the GPU? With UI and browser acceleration the CPU is not needed as much.

The SGSII uses GPU acceleration throughout its UI too. Simple fact is the cpu is faster in the SGSII and GPU is a lot more powerful in the IP4s.

But at the end of the day both have extremely powerful hardware and no-one should be choosing either phone solely based on its SoC.

The Soc is one of the key points in choosing a phone as the Soc determines how smooth the users experience is and what apps you can run. Plus if they both use the GPU for UI and browsing then the 4S is twice as fast even if both CPU cores are used.

In your case I would go for the S2. I love mine. That said, for non-geeks I would recommend the iPhone. My missus has an Android and she just can't work with it. I hate to admit it, but iOS is more polished out of the box than Android, and this is from an Android lover. It has more capabilities, sure, but you need to know where to look.

I just told you both are more than powerful enough not to worry.
Well I don’t agree on that, depends on what you want to do. You can run apps and games on 4s the S2 couldn’t even dream of running as it lacks the power.

The 4s is pretty much a tablet in a phone so you can use it as a full media centre or replacement for a games console.

EDIT: Just look at voice interaction it’s so much more powerful on the 4S. Or the Air steaming.

which apps/games are these - there aren't any games on the Android market that taxes SGS2 hardware.

EDIT - It seems were not seeing eye to eye here - if games are more important to the op - then yes the ip4s is the one to go for as it has the better games catalogue and better gpu.

But if hes just a casual gamer then Android is fine.

And pottsey - the ip4 withs its power vr sgs535 has better looking games on it than the sgs2/android. showing that a more powerful gpu isnt everything.

You mean the Siri voice interaction that until recently was available as an app on iPhones two generations old before Apple bought the company? The voice interaction does not place much load on the handset at all, it's all done server side.

To be honest I wouldnt buy a phone for hardcore gaming its a phone after all.
Yes it makes a nice side note to have a few games to kill time now and again but most of the games arent that hardcore. I havent even seen any examples of games that both have that play smoother or load faster yet anyway. Not that it would make much difference anyway.

Siri is a joke btw same as Icloud anyone that uses them as an example clearly shows they are clutching at nothing. Apple marketing is what make them look good and lets face it they have been out for a while now. Voice command software and online storage.... wow
