Hi all im in a bit of a dilemma at the moment...

My current setup is as follows :

Intel Quad Core 9650 CPU running at 3.6 and running at 38oC idle
Gigabyte EP45-UD3LR Motherboard
4 Gig OCZ Platinum DDR2 Memory (1066)
640 Gig Samsung Hard Drive
2 x 2 Gig Samsung F1 Hard Drives
2 Samsung Dvd Writers
Gainward GTX275 896mb Golden Sample Graphic Card
Thermalright Ultra 120 CPU Cooler
Corsair 650 Watt PSU
Lian Li P60 Black Aluminium Case

The problem im having is that I have at this moment someone interested to buy this system for £400 but I dont know whether to as this plays all games i've tried at the moment (I will be getting MW3 and BF3)

If I sell this then it will cost me an extra £400 to upgrade to this :

Intel i5 2500k Retail
Asus Motherboard P67 Revision B3
2 x 4gb Corsir Vengeance 12800
Graphic Card 2gb - Nvidia 560ti or ATI 6970 = £199
LG Bluray writer & 10 bluray discs
Boot Drive = WD Cavair Blue
Cpu Water Cooler = Antec Kholer
Case Corsair Carbide 400R
Corsair PSU 750w

What are your opinions guys??

Yey or Ney???

P.S Forgot to add apart from sone gaming I do like to do a bit of video editing and photoshop etc....

That's a toughy - if money is tight i would be tempted to keep the system and just upgrade the gfx card (460, 560Ti) depending on your budget. As the q9650 clocked and coupled with a decent gfx card should still much it's way through most games and general apps use.

Having said when you've offset what you could sell the system for then buying a whole new SB set up for £400 is very tempting and would last you another 3/4 years...

Depends largely on your finances and needs - £400 outlay for a whole new up to date base unit that will run everything you throw at it seems like a bargain too.

Decisions, decsions...

Well the i5 would be a huge step up from the old Q9650...but if the Q is meeting your needs?

Again the 560 or the 6970 (would go for a 6950 my self - cheaper overclocks well and the diff between it and the 70 is minor)

If your lucky you could even find a older 6950 that unlocks to a 6970 on ebay or the sellers market?

Personally I'd do it, but id grab a newer board with 3.0 pci e and ivybridge (top range sandybrigde) support so if you ever want to you can upgrade the cpu and the gfx card to newer stuff!

Its a difficult decicion to make... As I said its never missed a beat at anything i've thrown at it...

All I was going to upgrade for was to play BF and MW3 in the next month or so and do some video editing....
There are not many other games that interest me (Always been a COD fan since the first one came out)..

Its tempting as some of you say just to sell the GTX275 and get a 560ti and maybe upgrade my ram to 8gb to help with photoshop and editing...

Decisions, decisions.... lol

where are you getting a 6970 for £199?

motherboard would prob ay z68 over p67.

Well what I was thinking after reading the comments on here is :

01. If I sell my GTX275 i'll probably get £60 maximum then I'de have to get a 560 or a 6950 etc and so that would mean I would have to put an extra £150.
02. If I upgrade my DDR2 memory then the same sort of spec that I have in now is quite hard to come by and as far as i can see will cost about £60 for another 4gb.
03. I do want to get a bluray writer, mainly for home movies etc and so if I sold my 2 dvd writers for £10 each that would cost me another £50 on top.

That makes a grand total of £260 just to upgrade my current system... Where as if I spent another £140 ontop of this i would be able to get an i5 2500k, new board, new memory, new case, new psu, new boot drive, new cpu cooler....

If you needed tp sspend that much on a slight overhaul then i to would go for the complete upgrade.

Originally i thought you only needed a clocked CPU and a gfx card - but with all the other extras you want then a complete upgrade makes fiscal sense. Plus, you'll have a system that should last you another ~4 years - not bad for £400 outlay.

Agree with plec here plus as said above your system isnt gonna get easier to sell!

Would point out a 750w psu is a bit overkill for the system you envisage.

Both would be sufficient for your purposes. If you start looking at it you might be able to save a bit on a few of your componants...ie will you be overclocking the cpu? Do you need a sli/ xfire capable mobo?

I dont know if in the future i will decide to sli/xfire etc...
I could take the psu out of my original build and keep that and replace it with a different one and put in the one im going to sell as I think the Corsair psu's are brill...

What would you recommend to save a bit on comonents????

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-256-SP&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1752 gfx card - £200 - or - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-114-MS&groupid=701&catid=1914&subcat=1341 - £185

HDD is fine although personally Id go for the samsung HDD but it does cost more...id keep an eye out though as hdd are often on sale.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CD-106-LG&groupid=701&catid=10&subcat=314 - presumably this is the blu ray drive you were looking at?

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CD-106-LG&groupid=701&catid=10&subcat=314 this case is actually more than the one you envisage but it is very good! and on sale, just thought I'd bring it to your attention. Any particular reason you are looking at the corsair case?

Because for most people the Antec 100 would be perfectly sufficient and cheaper.

The xfx psus i linked are good they are made by seasonic who are arguably the best psu makers so you know it will be a quality product.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-192-MS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1990 good mobo, on sale and ivybridge ready.

Only other thing would be the cooler? which antec one did you have in mind?

I do game at 1920x1200 so I presume a 2gb gfx card would be more future proof..
Also the link for the case doesnt seem to show a case but the lg bluray writer.. lol

Il admit its not the nicest looking case, but as far as air cooling goes on cases it blows the corsair bunch out of the water and will be much quiter doing it.....but lets not forget the antec 100 i recommended...is an awesome case, only around £50
