Is there any real benefit to getting an i5 2500 over a 2500k if they are at the same price like they are now?

I mean even if i don't over clock the 2500k straight away it gives me an opportunity to if i need to later on to keep up with newer releases around?

Unless the 2500 is more stable i don't see a benefit, hoping someone can verify my thoughts because im not entirely sure on the matter :(

i5-2500K is better for two reasons:

1) It can be overclocked in the future (assuming you have P67/Z68).
2) It'll have a higher resale value.

Yeh i'm getting a P67 motherboard and thats pretty much what i though but i wasnt sure whether because those certain things can't be unlocked on the 2500 it would run more stable.

from what i have seen, the 2500k when overclocked is a very stable chip and can be clocked to over 4GHZ and ill be purchasing one soon. providing you have the correct the voltage and FSB you should be able to achieve a very good OC and still be very stable. just run prime 95 for a few hours to make sure afterwards.

there is a guide HERE if you need help.

No 'FSB' tweaking on Sandybrige. Core clock locked at out 100Mhz with the PCI-E stuff. Super high end psycho overclockers sometimes put a few extra Mhz on there to squeeze out as much as possible towards the next multiplier level of speed that would be unstable. For the rest of us, leave well alone :D

K= unlocked multipliers and that's all you need do along with voltage control -Up the multipliers :)

Yeap stable under ibt and prime. Air cooled with a venom. Vcore is 1.344 max temps under stress testing is 75. Gaming and normal usage it stays below 60. Idle is anywhere from 33 to 37. Been stable with no bsods for just over a week now, on 24/7 as well.

So all in all very happy with it indeed. Gaming temps include CPU intensive games like Bad Company 2

I am one of those guys who would lower it if it was not stable. Not stable is no good to me.

Brilliant because i was thinking of buying a venom myself. Thats a nice low voltage aswell :)

Still not sure about BC2 yet but we will see :P

Yeah, I have tried to get the voltage lower, but no way with my chip anything lower I get bsod's when loading. Guess each chip is different. I have seen people with lower voltages.

What motherboard do you have with the 2500k because i want one that i can decently overclock with later but will run good at stocks for now
