Hey guys,

buying a new rig in week or so and it will be the 2500k chip but just not sure what cooler to get for a great overclock?

Keep seeing posts about a silver arrow thats not in stock, but looking at its spec it doesnt even seem to support 1155 boards? I am probably missing something there?

Seen a few recommend noctua but apparently has issues with memory slots?

Whats the cooler thats generally recommended for the best clocks and temps on a 2500k?

Cheers

The Noctua NH-D14 I think is the king of the air coolers if you can face the cost :) Do you have RAM already because it'll fit no problem if you get some low profile RAM.

The Gelid Tranquilo is seen as a good cooler for the price, won't keep the temps down like a D14 though ;)

The Silver Arrow and the Noctua give more or less the same results; the Noctua is just more expensive.

The Silver Arrow does support 1155, it just isn't listed.

The memory slots issue is one that any large cooler will face. If you are using RAM with tall heatsinks like Vengeance, then the cooler will block the first two RAM slots on the motherboard.

Cheers guys, not bought the ram yet as will order all the kit together, was looking at the vengeance but will just have to find some suitable low profile ram then :)

Yeah get the Vengeance LP kit. They even look better than the original Vengeance.

Or assuming 8gig is enough ram i assume i can just use the other 2 slots for the 8gig?

If you did this, you might be running both of the sticks in the same channel meaning the RAM will run in single channel.

Check your motherboard manual for which slots are which, or just tell us what motherboard you have / are getting.

Cheers for info guys.

Well i have been trolling the forums all day and am kind of set on that Azrock extreme4 gen 3? seems to be getting a lot of good clocks on the mobo forum but i have no idea about motherboards i just dont want to spend more than about 150 on it unless its a big speed increase and want to be able to clock a 2500k to about 4.5ish

I'm using an Akasa Venom, its not badly priced though not as much of a performer as other coolers mentioned

On idle I get temps on my 2500K @ 4.3Ghz(just using turbo on the motherboard, nothing fancy), idle temp is 38oC and under heavy load it goes to 50oC

Is that the venom that has 1 fan? Or the voodoo with 2?

I'm tempted to save a bit of £ and go with something like the Venom or Gelid Tranquilo instead of spending a lot on say the NH-D14.

Those temps are pretty good as well :) What case/cooling do you have?

If you're after saving some cash then the gelid is a good choice in my experience. I have a 2500k running at 4.5ghz with max temp after 8 hrs of prime of 69C

Its the standard venom with 1 fan

I'm using an old iCute Turbine case, i've kept it for quite a few years as its got good airflow.

I use IC Diamond TIM along with a rear 120MM fan, a 80MM side fan and a front 180MM(IIRC) fan.
