Quietest 560Ti

A family member needs a gfx card so I’m selling my 460 to them on the cheap (I know I’m lovely) so i thought I would make small jump up in performance to the 560Ti.

I’m not overly fussed about the difference in performance (frame rates) between the different Ti's but noise is a factor. I’ve set myself a budget of £190 max and i'm considering the following makes (that OcUK stock):
  • Gigabyte (big fan as my present 460 is silent at idle so if the cooling is similar/identical to my 460 i'll be more than happy with this as they're UK based too.)
  • Asus
  • MSI

Whichever card is quietest I’ll take (reading some reviews now but would like to read real life experiences) – if they’re all similar then I’ll probably pick the Gigabyte.

I can only say how quiet the msi twin frost ii is, and its pretty quiet. At idle you cant hear it, but under load it is the loudest part of my computer, but still reasonable.

Been looking at one myself, I think they're all pretty quiet but the Gainward PHantom seems to be really quiet even at full load, worth googling and checking out :)

edit: downside is that it's a 2.5 slot card so you need to make sure you have enough room

Thanks, the Phantom does look interesting (reading reviews now)

However, the budget i set was to allow for this ‘week specials’ and the brands i listed can be bought for ~£175 some weeks. Plus, this is a frivolous purchase and I’m losing money on the 460 – so I’m aiming for bang for buck, with relative silence.

The Gainward does look interesting and its design certainly fulfils my criteria. My case fans are currently set at 25% (inaudible) including the fans on my Silver Arrow. So the loudest thing in my case is the Corsair PSU – which actually sounds relatively loud in my system due to everything else being silent.

WIth the above setup I still can't hear my Gigabyte gfx card fans at idle - but take comfort in that it will cool itself effectively regardless of my airflow when i occasionally play a game (and even then it's very quiet). So if the Gigabyte 560Ti (or similar) had similar noise levels to the Gigabyte 460 I would be more than satisfied – plus only ~£175.

Having said that if the 560 Ti’s noise levels are significantly louder, than their little brothers, then I will definitely consider the Phantom at the higher price.
