Forza 4

Woohoo! Just hit level 17 and picked up a VX220  All being well that will be the one and only Vauxhall I pick up in this game!

I've just done a classic Dodge race. Turns out the car I picked only had 3 gears. Bouncing off the rev limiter in 3rd at 125...

Loving my Unicorn RX-7 Spirit R :D

Just took it round Infineon Raceway, absolutely stunning track, especially in the dawn lighting, bought back a LOT of good memories of zipping round there in GT4 & Tourist Trophy, cannot understand why the FM community whined about that track being in, its fantastic, the crazy corners on elevation changes really set it off as something different from the rest of the pack!

Just hit level, I think 11, and got my Escort Cossie, too many cars I wanted in that set!!

I can now understand that point of view, but I still think the talented tuners and painters out there get there money back as soon as it hits the storefront, just can't help thinking they've alienated 1 type of gamer out there to please another, I know you can't please everyone but I think there has to be a middle ground to keep both sides happy

or am I the only one moaning about this?

90% of the game for me is the online aspect and the community that goes with it. The single player is just a way to level up and get some prize cars for me.

Give XBL a try on Forza. It's an eye opener.

I've had xbl for 4 year and I think infact my subscription is still going , but I have just recently moved house and come into unexpected financial troubles so things like broadband have to wait for a few months

I think it's good that you get free upgrades, but I think level 4 is a bit low. Maybe if it were closer to 10 or something.

I kinda agree and wouldn't be surprised if its patched to 10% per level up to level 10 or something, rather than so easily being able to get the mods for free.

That said, I'm quite tempted to buy all the available free mods for all my cars, just in case they decide to patch it. :D

The only thing that irks me is the HUD really, massive numbers for lap & time, and no way of getting the place list up like it was in FM3, was always nice to know where M Rossi was!!

Got a couple more hours in myself, still really enjoying it..

I did have 2x crashes of the game on what I think was the 2nd TG Skittle challenge. After doing the challenge the game hangs and the X360 freezes during loading back to the main menu.

Audio continues to blow me away with the feel of the engines, back fire, kerbs, engine revs, bumps in the road. Its all alive in this game.

What is a bit of a let down and using an old favourite is that the F40 being too easy to drive. I tested it on Suzuka and GT5 certainly requires more care when driving fast cars. If anything FM4 still has a bit too much grip or is that just a more planted balance which just doesnt feel as edgy. Its hard to put down in words with still little playtesting done but FM4 does achieve in huge amounts is offer a fun and rewarding drive.

Typical example of when 1 screen you see so little of the enviroment your racing in and other cars cant be seen.

Agree with you about the audio, all the cars sound immense (loving all the Ferrari's currently) changing down gears excites me a little. :p

One thing that is really bugging me though is that the engine bay on the Ferrari 360 Modena isn't red, seems to just be a white outline of were the red bit of the engine should be (I do use cockpit cam by the way)

I'm finding the A.I rather cheeky during races too  been rear ended off the circuit a few times so far! :p

Puzzled how Forza, with its huge variety of cars, driving styles, challenges, play styles, and general lists of things to do, can be getting stale fast compared to an F1 game, with its sole very stringent style of driving?

Maybe you just need to explore different modes a bit?

F1 is F1, you can't really change that. Practice, Quali, Race.

However Forza and GT are largely made up of fictional race series, so you can do whatever you want with them, yet we still have the same old formula of pick car, do race at X track, go and do race at Y track, get credits, change to car Z and repeat.

What is this massive list of things to do? You say "huge variety", but so far the only different and new things I've seen are knocking skittles over around the TG track, and some daft racing between cones which both feel completely out of place.

Rivals is just a glorified time trial with a refined leaderboard system which I've zero interest in, and the store and customisation we have seen before.

So what should I be looking at? Honest question as I'm genuinely down about how little I'm enjoying it so far after looking forward to it.

I have been a GT fan since the first was released and after the disappointment GT5 was I sold my PS3 and have waited for FM4 and so far have not been disappointed with my choice. :)

Well, strokes for folks, and if F1's your bag then you won't need any variety over there to enjoy it.

Ways you could approach Forza though...

1. A tuner. You can play around for ages trying to tweak and refine any given car's setup to get the most out of it
2. An artist. You can design different, um, designs, for cars, try and recreate classic things like stick the old red/green Castrol livery on the GT-Four etc... or stick Kirby all over every car you own
3. A photo/video-grapher. You can drive to scenic places and try and get nice artsy shots, or create videos of interesting races, or videos of anything. One thing I intended to do with F3 but never got around to was recruit someone else, go to that italian village track, just the two of us in a private multiplayer, have one car painted as a cop car, and film a chase movie
4. Car collector. By amassing credits either through world tour or competing online (love this aspect now, that online play rewards you), you can try to "own" all the cars you're interested in, if that's your bag (this aspect less important to me, after doing it in 1, 2 and 3...)
5. Standard single player campaign. You can try to clock the entire thing. I'm a bit of a perfectionist and like coming first in every single race, for example
6. Time trials. This is my particular favourite, trying to climb up the online roster. "Rivals" provides some nice dressing for this core activity, and there's so many different race modes, I could break this into further categories if I had time
7. Online racing. So easy if you're in a car club (such as the OcUK one), just go for live races in realtime with other people (less interested in this myself)
8. Autovista. Obviously the most expressly limited option, but you can spend a wee bit of time exploring the high detail models and listening to Clarkson
9. Driving skill. Just another aspect of time trials really, but negating the online aspect, just trying to be smoother and put in nicer laps. Trying to learn the physics.
10. Achievement whoring. As is usual these days, you can aim to collect all the badges/titles for your playercard.

Now maybe some/all of these don't interest you, but it's what I think of when I fire up Forza, as things I could do within it.

So, is this better than Gran Turismo 5 then?

No racing game has managed to 'grab' me recently :(

Played about 2-3 hours of Forza4 so far and I can already happily say I think it is better than GT5.
The handling is more fun, the game is more eye catching and not let down by certain cars looking like they were ripped from GT1, the sound is leagues better, the load times are much better, the AI is miles better.

All that is before you even consider the community side of stuff...

Got this friday, to go along with a wheelstandpro and official MS Steering Wheel a mate and I have had since Forza 3. Stopped playing it after a few months so decided to get this to get some use from it and definately have so far :D

Graphics are a nice step up, mainly due to the lighting (still want next gen now, can't stand the zig zagging lines always find them distracting) and handling definately feels more intricate playing with all assists off, simulation mode steering just braking line and manual no clutch.

Am a fan of cars but have never really been into them as don't drive myself, does anyone have any good guides for this with regards to upgrading yourself? I currently have a Camaro SS maxed in B class but to take it into A I want to focus on the handling mainly as it has enough speed but don't really know where to start aside from obvious things such as tires and definately don't know about how doing A affects B etc If anyone has any useful guides would be greatly appreciated!

i believe theres a massive tuning giude floating around the forza forums. if you cant find it though i;ll do my best to give you some tips
