My Facebook page deleted today

:D

I don't usually bother with social networking sites, but without Facebook, I'd have little contact with some friends of mine, so I need one. Simple. My best friend only uses Facebook, and he works some odd hours so we only get time to meet up a couple of times a month, so it's useful for keeping in touch. There's a nice girl I'm interested in, and she prefers to send messages from Facebook on her phone instead of texting. Another of my friends lives in Portugal. Another in New York.

It's just easier to have them all in the one place. People can message me, and I can pick it up and reply whenever I want. If you use Facebook for its intended purpose, i.e., as a social networking site for keeping in touch with friends, instead of accepting all and sundry onto your friends list, you will get less of these useless updates/billions of pictures from egocentric people. Less is more :p

I would forget everyone's birthday if I didn't have Facebook.

It's a great tool, the idiots that complain about it are the idiots that put their life on it. Some of the things I see by some of my chav mates are crazily funny! Stuff that I would NEVER want everyone reading about, but for some reason they think it's a good idea everyone knows about it!

I can't believe the stupidity of some people in this thread who haven't got a clue how to use Facebook.
As soon as the icon is clicked it's as though they're trapped in a world where they have to click and read every status and look at every picture.
Mind you we have idiots on here who will post 'Please delete this thread' or 'Why isn't this thread closed yet?' because they are incapable of not clicking on it.
To me Facebook and OCUK are no different except for the major fact I actually know people on Facebook so they are more relevant to my life.
Now I don't know if I'm doing it right but every 3 days I will log onto Facebook, I'll have a very quick look at the 3 icons with requests & messages BUT DON'T READ THEM ALL.
I then very quickly scroll down the HEADERS of NEW POSTS and I do this very quickly with only the odd thread catching my eye.
I do exactly the same thing with OCUK because I actually have the willpower not to click on every thread and sometimes I may read a thread and decide I'm not going to read anymore without asking a Mod to delete it.
I find Facebook'ing and OCUK'ing very easy peasy but I have willpower.

Facebook seems only to consist of:

ARGH! BABIES!
ARGH! MEN!
ARGH! PREGNANCY!

or

YAY! BABIES!
YAY! MEN!
YAY! PREGNANCY!

It drives me mad really. None of my friends worth talking to use it on a regular basis/ever anyway.

Why does it drive you mad?! Just use it as YOU want to use it. Surely you can communicate with the people you want to talk to in other ways?

Well TBH most people on there are old friends and acquaintances. I probably use it out of curiosity more than anything, and most of the time it's like a live Jeremy Kyle news feed.

The only "social networking" site I use is LinkedIn tbh. I only log in about once a quarter as well and keep my circle of contacts strictly to people I've worked with.

I was on FriendsReunited but deleted that account ages ago as I kept getting messages from people who I never really liked at school anyway.

Sifting through the the inane crap that my 'friends' posted to get to relevent stuff from people I cared about used to drive me nuts. I pruned 200 people from my friends list which sorted that out. My only complaint is that it is relatively difficult to remove a lot of people from your friends list. I had to go into each ones page individually to do it, took bloomin ages to go through 200.

And OcUK Forums don't infringe on your Privacy unless you let them, they don't track every site you go to, what/where you buy, who your personal friends and family are, where you are, illegally data-mine your email address book, phone contacts then sell the information on for Profit to marketeers. But, yeah, other than that, they are exactly the same..

Yeah I deleted mine in Summer 2010, never turned back. Friends and family were alright on FB, I found it got fickle when friend-of-friends and friend-of-friend-of-friends added you yet never say a word to you. deviantART is better for randoms IMO as they can express their likes/dislikes through art and they do reply to your comments!

I'm often wanting to delete my account, but the commander in chief won't let me as its a useful tool for her to remind me to pick things up on the way home.

Indeed. People harp on about how they are free from the inane ramblings of people they at least vaguely know, but then spend their time reading the inane ramblings of a bunch of strangers on this and probably other forums.
