'Managed to run few on high settings' - so you post a screenie with most things set to ultra? What frame rates did you get with that? I'm debating picking up another Q6600 and a better GPU instead of shelling out for SB.

There was no ultra, the settings were there but did nothing to FPS or visuals as far as i could see. Most of the high settings were also the same as medium too.

For retail supposedly there's a separate disc on both the PC and PS3 versions with the Ultra textures etc.

I was only getting 37fps with that.

But If i droped the ultra settings to high then got 60fps

if you can run at 3.2 or above dont waste your cash on cpu upgrade yet get a better gpu ;) bf3 is gpu bound

any quad with 3.2 or above scores about exact same fps even at 5 ghz

why not ?

They are textures, they just get copied and pasted on screen. Theres no significant graphics processing hit from showing high resolution textures.

Think on, there are none of the DX11 effects that are present in the PC High / Ultra settings, none of lighting effects, and its playing at a very low resolution compared with most 20+ inch PC monitors

Its dead easy to display ultra textures at 1280 x 720 with none of the effects of high / ultra.

But doesnt the PS3 only have 256mb GPU? I know they can optomise the game hugely on the consoles when compared with a PC but it could be a HELL of a lot of textures to fit in 256mb!

The textures are loaded onto the Consoles Hard Drive, on both 360 and PS3

So i'm guessing they will be loaded into system ram and not from graphics ram maybe ?

But there is a whole separate disc of textures for the 360, so there will easily be 250mb of textures there.

My 965 and 5870 is at stock, the 5970 was factory overclocked by Sapphire, i think i'll overclock them to a decent setting that has a balance of temps and performance so i don't have to fiddle with tweaking again over the summer due to high temps from increased voltage, had that last time i overclocked my 965 to 4GHz.
