Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

Yeah they've learnt that if they sell it for £25 people queue up at the door for hours before openning, clogging up the store and stop real customers from getting in.

They walk up to the counter, buy their game at a loss / no profit and then walk away again.

Resulting in them making sweet FA from the whole thing.

Instead, they make it £25 when you spent xxx in store making you come in and buy stuff in store at a profit you probably didn't need just to get the offer, and it stops their being a stampede outside which scares off your customers as most will just buy elsewhere without the need to spend in store.

Sledgehammer dev gets mad about people saying MW3 graphics are the same as MW2! Angry Man
Well I'll tell you one thing, I've worked on a lot of engines over my lifetime and spent a lot of time putting graphics in to them and this thing is Porsche. And what I mean by that is that it is stream-lined, everything in it is perfectly freaking clean. You can tell it's been worked on for years. It's easy to upgrade.

We worked with engines before that are like ******* spaghetti. You can't work on a part and put it back in without messing with everything else. Modern Warfare 3's levels now are so much bigger than the old ones because they go more vertically, they have a bigger footprint and on top of that, higher fidelity, more textures and a lot more detail.

Whatever! Everybody know it's basically MW2.5....

depends what you mean by MW2.5

The devs are probably getting sore because they put in a lot of time and effort upgrading the mechanics behind the game that you don't see.

Only then for the stylists and designers to give it the same visual style and leave it looking barely any different.

MW3 is MW2 with some things changed/removed so god knows why they're getting so anal when people point it out. When you use models, textures and ideas from your previous titles then of course people are going to notice and call it MW2.5 or whatever.

Bowling should have just said it was a new engine from the beginning maybe he was trying not to build expectations whilst things were up in the air, but it seems to have back fired now.

I cant wait for this, ive played all the COD games religiously since 4, but I thought id lost interest this time round and am really surprised by how excited I am about this iteration. I also sort of thought that this year would be the year I defected to BF3, but again I cant see that happening. My only question is whether I go for PC this year and break my habit or previous years...

This is the problem

Lots of work has gone into new code and updating the engine

But when the model for the m4 looks exactly the same for example, and the weapons are the same and the maps the same etc.. people are bound to say its MW 2.5

This has the same maps as MW2?

Well of course the weapon models will look the same!

How do you suppose they make the m4 look different without it actually being an M4 anymore? For me the weapon models look pretty good from MW2.

Some of the textures/models don't look the same they are the same.

It doesn't bother me one bit, but a developer can't get all butt hurt when people point out things like this when they just use stuff from their previous game without changing a thing.

Will the game quality and support be consistent across all platforms? Some PS3 and PC Call of Duty players have felt a bit hard done by on previous occasions?

Absolutely, and it is. We've been developing on PS3 for over a year. I do get tweeted saying 'We haven't seen any PS3 screens'. What happens is we start developing on 360 and at some point we switch. We switch to the PS3 and you make sure that that's running at 60 frames a second, the graphics look freaking great, and we play both. They're in parity. Every place is exactly the same. I'm not sure what the issues were with the last one, but there's nothing to worry about with this one.
No mention of PC, I am disappoint

Hi ya chaps, right what am I doing here, I'm up for buying it before I reach a solid 30 days on MW2, people are talking about hardened editions and special codes, what do I need to get playing properly, don't mind buying the special edition if it means I don't have to pay for maps later etc but not paying for a shiny tin

Any help rather than scanning 50 pages

Cheers

You just need the Hardened edition. You will get DLC content and Elite.

Tesco and Blockbuster both had offers, but both of those ended :(

You may be bets off just picking a regular edition up for £25 on launch day. One of the supermarkets will do it for that price when you spend x amount in store.

Just make sure you do need some shopping that day.

Wow can't believe grown men are lapping up this re-hash of MW2 up like there's no tomorrow, and paying £63 for the privilege of a re-skinned game that came out 3 years ago.

Deary me. :(

I can't believe a grown man is acting like a child and making comments like that.

Deary me.

Rolleyes all you want, truth hurts. :)

Can't believe to what's happened with the COD franchise to be honest, seems that it all went downhill after MW2 when they started milking it for all it's worth. I'll be looking forward to the reviews though.
