Wow never mind rage, I just downloaded the demo for Metro and it's awesome so far. Is it fairly long and doesn't get too tedious? In other words, worth getting the full game?

I'm really impressed how good it looks and runs on my relatively modest rig, phenom 550 and AMD 5850. I'm getting well over 60fps on high, DX10, AF x16, AAA. If I change to DX11 it pretty much halves my framerate but it looks really good on DX10 anyway so I don't think I'm missing too much am I? Couple of things to ask. I set subtitles on and they worked until now in a later section, and subtitles aren't working anymore even though the box is ticked. Also, there's some tearing but no vsync option in the game, and my CCC wait for vertical refresh is set to always on. So not sure how to overcome the tearing and subtitles. Maybe the full game works better than the demo?

Tip use dx11 but turn of DoF :)

It was cheap on steam a few days back, under a fiver I think. I am about half way and it really is amazing. From what I understand the game is pretty short. vsync setting is actually in the ini or cfg file for the game. But it can be hard to make the setting stick.

You're right. I changed the default 'r_vsync off' to 'r_vsync on' in the user.cfg, and though the setting stays, it's not fixing the tearing. Still, it's only mild tearing.

DoF = depth of field? Can't find that in the user.cfg. If I turn it off and enable DX11, will I still get the same framerate?

Well, i got it for £3.70 and i am glad i didn't pay more for it. It's a nice looking game but the guns/movement/aiming just does not feel right to me. It probably is just me and you, like a lot of people, may think it's the best thing since sliced bread.

The DoF (depth of field) is in the actual game settings, when you select dx11 it will open up with some settings to turn on/off. This setting will increase your FPS with dx11.

Got it, thanks! :)

What about Tessellation and Advanced Physx, leave them on?

Yeap leave Tessellation on, did you see an increase in FPS with dx11 with DoF off?

Massive increase! Between 55 and 69fps, compared to mid 30's before turning DoF off :D

Can't say I've noticed a difference in visual quality yet, though I'm sure it's there. I'll do some comparisons between DX11 and DX10.

Hmm, what am I supposed to be noticing that's different then in DX11?:) Having gone back and forth between DX11 and DX10 I'm not really seeing it.
I'm not sure but I think some details are a little sharper perhaps?

tip to op, this game is on offer on steam a lot, at the very latest it will be in the christmas sale. I picked it up for a fiver but still aint downloaded it. One of many untouched gems on my steam list no doubt

make sure to play on ranger difficulty and original voices (russian) really sets the mood.

Fantastic single player FPS game in fact the best one since hl2 in my view.

I got this on steam for under a fiver a few days ago on steam. It has great visuals, but at first I found the sound effects and voice acting was very unconvincing (probably because it was the first thing I played since the BF3 beta). After a couple of hours of getting used to it, I started to become really immersed in the game and it became good fun. Just started playing through again on hardcore ranger mode:D

As far as i know DX11 will give better shadows/lighting which is common in that game so it's good to play using it and also as mentioned turn DOF off/Tessellation as both do not much at all for the game yet drop fps a lot.

When i played it on 5870 i averaged 40-50fps most of the time at 1920x1200 maxed DX11 which probably be even better now with newer drivers.

Brilliant game, i got it in the thq sale. Was included in the pack i bought which included 15 other games for 36 quid which is a bargain imo.
