Last time you went to the dentist?

My teeth were in appalling condition - I now go to the dentist every six months for my regular check ups but I learned a very painful and expensive lesson after a couple of abscesses and several root canal treatments you don't want to loose you're teeth. :D

On a side note - is it only my dentist that seems to employ the hottest young assistants? Also, just how difficult is it to appear tough and manly (in front of the aforementioned assistant) when you've got a huge smegging needle shoved in your mouth?

Went last week for scaling and polish on lowers. Next monday for complete removal of uppers and then dentures. Sleep apnia is a bitch!

how the hell can people go years between apointments? dont your dentists just take you off the list?
granted most people who brush properly every day dont really need to go anyway so i wont judge people as having stinking breath :P

Funny all these people that don't go because they're not in pain and feel that because they brush their teeth twice a day then they'll be ok. Truth is, brushing has little effect on whether you get decay or not, sure the fluoride helps, but if you've got a crappy diet and frequently ingest sugar you'll get decay even if you brushed 10 times a day!
Relying on pain as an indicator is useless as well as often cavities are asymptomatic until the nerve becomes inflammed at which point it is often more than just a simple filling.

The guy who moaned that he waits until he has pain as he always had a horrible time at the dentist....the solution to that is right in front of you!!

In terms of expense, this country has screwed itself over in dentistry, it was far too cheap for far too long; now that a lot of practices are leaving the nhs due to the shambles of the new contract, people are realising the real cost of dentistry. The overheads involved in dentistry are staggering, and unfortunately these need to be passed on to the patient; like any other business. Before everyone jumps on the bandwagon of dentists doing fillings just to pay for their Porsche, there are a lot of practices now struggling to stay afloat.

Went to the dentist for the first time in years recently. He was a ruthless ******* and his words of "let me know if you feel any pain" did not mean he would actually stop causing it. That was just a descaling as well. It was nice to have my teeth the right colour again though, I'd developed these black lines on the back of my teeth from smoking (have since quit) which was disgusting. Worth it for only 17 quid. Not the kind of quality I was used to paying for in the USA though.

Last time I went to see a dentist was when I was 14. I'm now 35.

I still have no fillings and strong teeth. Gotta keep up with the brushing though :p Never eaten much in the way of sweets either, so I guess that's a help too.

I was rather put off at my last dentist visit. The guy took a mould of my teeth but put too much of the putty stuff in the cast gum-shield thing; I had a big flap of the moulding compound ooze out of the cast mould and settle over my windpipe. I could breathe out fine, but every time I tried to breathe in, the flap of gunge sucked down and stopped me inhaling. I turned blue, apparently.

Just got a letter in post for a check up appointment at the dentist.

I know it has to be done, but its kinda annoying.

"We know you don't want to, but come in anyway, so we can say everything is fine, and then take your money".
