Rasurbo 550 watt psu safe for the OC Radeon 6870

I bought the OC Radeon 6870 that was a one day offer last week. Its getting delivered today and now Im wondering if a Rasurbo 550 Watt power supply will be powerful enough for it.

Currently Im finding that one of my two 14 cm fans on my case (randomly one or the other) doesn't start up without a little push and I was wondering if that was down to lack of power or something else. However I think its a relatively low power consuming system I have right now. Here are the rest of the specs..

Core i3 2100 cpu
Standard Intel cooler
4MB memory
2 hard Drives
4 case fans
CD writer

How are your fans connected? If they are connected inline(one into another) then maybe the ones at the end after getting enough power.

The two large case fans that I have problems with are inline Im pretty sure. The other two case fans I dont know much about as they are on top of the case and not visible from the outside. All I need to do though is nudge the problem fan and it goes.

Do you think my 550 watt psu will be fine for my 6870?

I think you will be fine, check this review. Take note of the amps of the 12v rail for the PCI-E it is rated at 20A.

Just do what I do when I click the power button on a new system.... Stand well back:D:p and have a fire extinguisher near you... Kidding ;)... but becareful ofcourse you never know with budget PSUs, they can go bang .. This is why I don't go down that route anymore I use to in the P4 days but the setups then were not as power hungry as they are now and would be fine on a cheapo PSU.

Thanks mate. :) I actually checked two psu calculators and they are coming up with around 350 watt minimum so I have 200 watt buffer on top of that. However I have 2 12v rails. 1 outputs 19amp and 2 18amp. How does this convert to requiring a single 12v rail to be 20 watt? Actually those numbers that I mentioned are on the side of my power supply and conflict with the number on the article on that website for apparently the same power supply model.

Strange the techpowerup review has the 550watt rated as 28A and 20A on the two 12V rails.

However, once you don't overclock you should be fine.

The +5 volt rail is rated at 28watt on psu. Oh and my video card has arrived so if you stay close to your computer you I will update this after its inserted, thats if it doesnt blow up :-o

Urgh so much hassle. My psu didn't have two six pin pcie 2 power connectors. I got a hold of a Corsair TX 650 WATT which works fine. When I installed the video card I got no display. I went back to my onboard. video which worked as usual and made sure the BIOS was set to discover the video card. It is. I tried the card again. No display.

I have an older LCD tv on which the DVI doesn't work so I have been using the vga port fine on it. The OC card comes with an adaptor and is supposed to convert to vga. It's not happening. I will try a nother display when I get a chance. By the way power is getting to the card as the fan turns.

What a nightmare!!!!! Got another vga connection monitor to try eventually. It worked on that. So for some reason I decide to once again try my TV. Voila now it works. I didnt reinsert the card or change anything from before.

Anyway after that I had to install the drivers. What another PIA (Pain In the A**). Computer didnt detect the card at all and the driver software instruction was vague to say the least. Anyway up and running now :).

Did your GFX card not come with extra 4 pin(PSU pin) to 6 pin PCI-e adapters?

I think your mean 4GB memory( :p ) and when you talk about about a 28watt rail you probably mean 28A. A 5v rail with an amp rating of 28A delivers 5*28=140watts.

LoL :D Am I supposed to make myself clear to you guys? Your just too lazy to figure it out but I was determined to make you work at it. ;) Man I can't even get every day terminology right like knork and fife or a screweddiver.
