American Sweets

I'm going back around 25 years but when I was a wee lad, a friend of mine used to go to America quite regularly and always came back with these long strips of strawberry belt sweets. I remember them being really juicy and tangy but can't for the life of me remember what they were called. I probably wouldn't even be able to recognise the name if someone told me. Anyone have a clue what they might have been?!!

Twizzlers?

you can generally get filipino or dubai mountain dew from chinese supermarkets or asian shops, this is just as much like the american version but has real sugar instead of that HFCS!

Only the American MTN Dew tastes like the American MTN Dew - thanks to Brominated vegetable oil, which is the aforementioned ingredient the EU frown upon.

have you tried the filipino or dubai version?

they have every ingredient minus the BVO, i have tried them side by side and they are practically similiar if not better, i would prefer sugar over HFCS with BVO, theres not much difference.

code red is better anyway.

also tartrazine and orange juice is missing out of the UK version, these are both in the ones i mentioned.

Yes, along with all the other versions that people say taste the same. They don't.

The American version is Carbonated Water, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Concentrated Orange Juice, Citric Acid, Natural Flavor, Sodium Benzoate, Caffeine, Sodium Citrate, Erythorbic Acid, Gum Arabic, Calcium Dosodium EDTA, Brominated Vegetable Oil, Yellow 5.

And as an example, the Dubai version is Carbonated Water, Sugar, Orange Juice, Citric Acid, Caffeine, Sodium Benzoate, Sodium Citrate, Gum Arabic, Natural Citrus Flavor, Ascorbic Acid, Calcium Dosordium EDTA, Tartrazine.

i did say just as much like the same, there is barely a difference, i like mountain dew and tbh i preferred these versions to the actual american version as the HFCS makes my throat feel quite strange after a few dews

There's an American food stuffs stall near my work at the moment. Gonna go and raid it later for my trip to Lincoln :D

If I could find a reasonably priced set of root beer here..

thinking about it, I cna get some American friends to buy it on the airbase!

I just received two massive bags of peanut butter M&Ms... :D

Along with some other schtuff.

I know the stuff you mean but I can't think of the name. It's raining too much for me to go and look at lunchtime, if I remember I might look on the way home.

I'm moving to America in December so maybe I can start dealing US sweets back to forum members if they are bought in enough bulk lol - never thought of that market.
