My New Car - Something a bit German.

In fairness the engine is the expensive bit and the warranty will or should cover all engine accillaries. :)

Other failures don't tend to be so expensive or when they fail you can fit uprated 3rd party parts, like suspension etc. :)

The engine is the most common big bill to fail, gearbox, ECU etc, tend to be very reliable.

After 18 months though he is back to no warranty at all! That's a 10/11 year old Porsche with nothing to cover you.

Budget tyres on a high performance car. :(

FK452's got reasonable write ups. I was going to track the car but have not ended up doing so. A friend has FK452's on his E46 M3 that I drove before buying mine and they handled quite well.

+10 man points to that man!

Running a car like this without warranty is a mans game! You sir deserve a cookie!

nooooooo

thats what i thought

I'm perfectly capable of rebuilding an engine, running gear, diffs etc... but when the replacement parts cost upwards of 4-5k you soon realise the labour costs arent the killer!!

seriously I hope my words don't come back to haunt you!!!

p.s. I have lots of spares should you need them ;)

Me 2 mate... I put on a brave face but if the worst was to happen the car would be in the garage and I would be running around in a 1.4 Corsa for a very long time, don't quite have the luxury of a spare M3.

When you say spares... don't suppose you have a set of clear front lights and side lights? A de-tango on mine, the cheapest I can find is almost 1.5k.

Rather you than me running a 9 year old Porsche without a warranty once your engine one lapses!

Thanks, to be honest I did look at it realisticly and thought when the warranty is up, I will have a 2 year old engine, and the other parts will no doubt be coming to end of their life (suspension etc) bear in mind it is a typical auto box that any auto specialist could look at, and I thought I may as well take the punt, and if I can't risk it in 18 months I can sell it on.

Engine is covered fully, all ancilliaries etc are new to be honest and the OPC warranty covers all of those parts. As you have said if suspension fails I would be perfectly happy to replace that by myself, as I would with most other parts, that aren't engine related.

I hope they don't too, fingers crossed I shouldn't have to call, have you learnt how to do PIWIS by any chance, want to fit an ipod adapter thing, but need to code the CD changer in to it! Also any suggestions for Porsche specific forums Gibbo/WillGill?

Looks really nice, I love the head lights on the 996, so sexy.

Nice motor

Thanks, they are a bit blotchy unfortunately from the plastic going off over the years, enquired how much a set of new lenses would be the other day. Unfortunately they only sell the whole unit at the bargain price of.

Only £1350 + vat.

EACH!

Yes Litronics, I only want the lenses, not going to spend £1500 to replace some lights that work perfectly but look a bit crap, I'll just get polishing them!

They are on my list of things to get, only they are eye wateringly expensive.

Solid - Theres a 3m kit for doing car light lenses. Was going to get it for my S2000 but never got round to doing it. You can buy it from amazon iirc.

edit - here you go - http://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/732405-3m-headlight-restoration-kit/

Thanks Gareth, will give it a go, I have tried to use my polisher and wet and dry but it hasn't improved as much as I had hoped.

I can vouch for that too, I used it on my p1 was very impressed with the results, if you are thinking of spunking 1500 squids it's worth a try :D

Oh definitely not would put up with the less than perfect look than ***** 1500quid on a new set of lights that already work. Got much more important things to do.

How are you finding Le Targa so far'ar? :)

Its very good thanks Phate, still learning it, but getting more confident with it now.
