So I am stuck bored somewhere in a hotel for work and is now doing some research as I feel that the company I work for are taking me for a ride. I have tried getting in touch with citizens advice but can't get through.

I have been working for this company now for just over 1 month which requires travelling around a LOT. I do roughly 1,000+ a week and was told I get my fuel allowance paid for as long as I record my mileage and send it to my regional manager. So far I have done everything to the books and was told I would receive payments every Friday, but I have not yet seen any money back. I have probably spent £400 of my own money on fuel and business insurance which is putting extreme stress on my bank and myself. Also, I signed my contract and was told I’d be paid £7 an hour. Within the first week the company said, "Because of political reasons we have to lower you wage down to £6.50 an hour" is this right?

Whenever I bring up the excuse to my boss why I haven’t received my mileage payments, he just replies back with “We just put more hours in your wage by mistake so what’s the problem?” Is this guy having a laugh?! The extra few hours he put down on my wage dock does not compete to what the company owes me for my travelling expenses.

Is there someone on here who can possibly tell me where I stand?

Thanks

Pretty sure thats illegal, as if they are putting the money back in as wages, your going to get taxed on that effectivly. As for the wages thing, unless it states in your contract they can lower the wage, i would say they cant do that either.

Im not a lawyer but after being shafted myself last year im more aware of what i do for work now

Surely your travel expenses are paid with your monthly salary?

Mine are seperate through web expenses so not necessarily.

And OP - what's in your contract...and what are you doing - sales?

I'm not on salary; I’m paid every 2 weeks. But they pay me 2 different payments so i get my normal wage then another wage for my travelling expenses. The travelling expenses are supposed to be in my account every Friday afternoon.

Looked at my first payslip last week, I did not pay any tax so I informed my boss and all he said was that might be a tax return. I have not received any letters from HM revenue to inform me about this though.

wut, they just can't lower your wages because of "political reason"

Seems to me that they are literally taking you for a ride!

Joking aside, I know nothing about employment law but make sure you get all the advice you need and fight to get back what you signed for in your contract.

Are you in a union?

was told I get my fuel allowance

Thats not a mileage reimbursement though is it?

What exactly have you been told and is it in your contract?

A contract should also normally have your salary in it, or maybe the covering letter?

What about the rest of your expenses, reimbursement or paid for in advance?

Just as a side note you can reclaim the tax on the difference between what you are reimbursed and the governments allowed mileage rates. If you donot get the government amount (or more) back you can make this claim yourself

Political reasons haha :D.

Your HR dept sound like a barrel of laughs. My HR dept tried to charge me 40% less than my agreed fee today, I just pulled a manager out and it was sorted pronto!

AFAIK they can't reduce wages that soon on a new contract and also AFAIK to reduce your wage they need to have a consulation with you where you agree on the new wage and IIRC its usually 90 days notice (tho I think exact notice period required will depend on how your paid, i.e. weekly, monthly, salaried or not, etc.)
