I am about to start Mass Effect 2 and I want to make sure I have the best DLC in place to make sure I am all ready for ME 3.

2 questions

1)Which dlc should I be looking to get (Quality doesn't concern me just that it is actual story content and not some guff like weapons and armour)

2)Where is the cheapest place to acquire it legally?

Cheers in advance

For storyline vital to Mass Effect 3, Lair of the Shadow Broker & Arrival.

The rest is just fluff or extra companions.

Try the usual online game retailers and the well known auction site ;)

Er, I thought the only place you could get ME2 DLC was direct from Bioware?

Lair of the Shadow Broker is a great DLC that contains some relevant story for ME3. Arrival by all accounts appears to contain story relevant to ME3 but is an abortion of a DLC and shouldn't be bought.
Kasumi's mission is enjoyable, she has some good squad abilities and the SMG you get on the mission is infinitely more powerful than the crap you get in the core game and can be gained very early on so you don't have to suffer for long.
Overlord is a good one too. Decent story and some good combat.
Cerberus Network you should have already if its an original copy (afaik) which contains the Merc (wtf was his name) and the Firewalker missions which are dreadfully tedious but easy experience.

There are some good equipment and theres always the weapon/armour packs too if you want em. If all you want is ME3 background then just get Shadow Broker and read the story to Arrival unless you must experience it yourself. But the rest are worth a try too.

As said, Lair of The Shadow Broker is the most essential. I also can't comment on Arrival as i have not played it but i have heard it bridges the gap between 2 and 3, but is not very good.
Overlord is not essential to the story and is not great story-wise, but it does offer a change and features some of the best combat in the game imo. Other than those, it is just Kasumi that is worth getting, she is an extra companion who is worth having.

Also, some of the weapons packs are worth getting if you can get them in a deal, don't pay much for them though!

I dont think any of the DLC is needed for the story imo, I finished ME2 in total of around 3 times, Finished it on X360 couple of times and also on PS3 as i bought that with all the content new..The only content i liked was Kasumi which as mentioned above gave you the awesome super SMG.

Only content i missed was one that came out after the PS3 version of ME2 which im told is crud and avoid anyway what it does add story wise is very easy just to read instead.

True, but it's worth it just for the sheer jaw dropping visuals of the assault on the Shadow Brokers ship.

That's the problem I have with ME2 (aside from the silly fan-service romances, Joss Whedon-esque dialogue and plot holes), too much shooting and not enough subterfuge :p

Worth a couple of playthroughs at bargain bin price certainly (which is what I did), but it didn't leave much of an impression. The potentially interesting story parts like the Illusive Man, the Quarian\Krogan infighting and the human-alien tension on the Citadel were under-developed.

Which if everything goes to plan, should be all well explored in ME3.

Anyway, OP, definitely get LotSB and Kasumi (I'm assuming you've already got Zaeed with the cerberus network).
First one is beautifully cinematic (even if you're not a Liara fan), and well worth it. Second one has a great character, and in general is very classy.

Arrival has important plot points, but is a little cheesy at the end (for me).

If you feel like playing more, you could get overlord, though personally I don't feel it is absolutely necessary (apart from the insight into a potentially significant cerberus experiment). The combat is pretty fun though.

For the smaller things (weapons and armour) you could get the firepower and aegis packs.

Even if you think that, it still features aspects of the story which will be essential to ME3 though.

Ill be honest its been months since i finished it, I dont re-call anything massive though just usual little pieces but nothing that would ruin the over all story or leave massive unanswered questions.

I suggest the OP gets all the DLC anyway just cause the ME series over all is that dam good but i dont think there a must.

I suppose it is not essential in the sense that you will be massively confused if you don't play it, but (this isn't really a spoiler) it does tell you the identity of the Shadow Broker who will apparently feature prominently in ME3.

Didnt know that shadow broker would play a big part in three so cool :) Miranda/Garrus/Grunt i like the most out of them all, I hope Miranda is going to be in the sqaud again and not just be like Liara was prior to the DLC i.e. useless :p

I'm still hopefuly for an "Ultimate Edition" or similar that junks it all together? Can tie it in to my pre-ME3 marathon to remind myself of the story...

Lair of the Shadowbroker is excellent, and not just 'cos I have a thing for blue chicks. :o
