Such thing as a budget performance tyre?

People will doubtless list tyres they consider fit this description but really if they dont offer the performance of a performance tyre surely they are mid range tyres..

Haven't heard of a good budget performance tyre tbh, quite a few mid-range tyres such as Toyo T1-R's and Falken 452's though.

Ok thats fine, so mid range tyres. What would be considered decent out of the bunch?

I've tried Falken and had problems with slow punctures causing a blow out but that could have been caused by other factors but I'm still wary

I would say the Toyo T1r could be considered a budget performance tyre. It is considered to be a performance road tyre, but is at the bottom of the budget. It won't perform to the same standard as the expensive tyres (cs3, ps2 etc) but will perform better than a normal road tyre.

Hankooks give good performance for the money. (In my experience and not something I have read from the internet!)
My Octavia vRS felt better at speed with Hankook Ventus 2s than it did with (worn) Continental Sport Contact 2s
They were good in the wet too.
I also have them on my van and would consider them on my new Octavia
My new car Octavia 2 TSi has Pirellis and they are exactly as I remember them from the 90s - great in the dry and aquaplane city in the wet.

Thanks, I'm after brands and models at the mo as I'm going to a re-seller outlet on Friday afternoon if I can get out of work early enough

I've tried T1-Rs and they were ok also tried Yokohoma Spec2 and literally hated them. Always wanted to try Rainsports and never tried Hankook either so they are options if available

Wish I could get some Eagle F1s or Continental Contact but I'm considering all 4 tyres so have a budget to stick to

Slow punctures do not cause blow outs. Continuing to drive on partially inflated tyres does, and that will happen with any brand.

I had a pretty nasty accident because of this blow out, I know how it was caused thanks, the tyre was inflated that day I remember it perfectly

I didnt realise having an accident automatically made you an expert on tyre dynamics. Why were you driving on a punctured tyre anyway, seems a bit daft?

Sorry,, you had a nasty accident on a tyre with a slow puncture which blew out and you blame the manufacturer?

It doesn't matter that the tyre was inflated fine that day, if it has been used under pressure a few times the sidewall flex generates heat which severely compromises the nylon reinforcing.

The Mind Boggles, anyway, Hankook Ventus V12 Evo were rated well by Evo Magazine if you think Falken 452's are vulnerable to random blowouts.

Here we go what importance or relevence does it have if I prefer not to buy a particular brand based on bad experiance people do it all the time

I never claimed I was expert in anything so why you are saying that I mentioned I was an expert is ridiculous?
This was a long time ago in 2003 so I cant say I'm all that fussed about the whole thing even less fussed to explain it to people on here who are looking for something to pick at, I will say that I was at work and noticed the tyre was deflated slightly when I went out at lunch, I thought nothing of it and topped it up, on the way home that tyre blew, the end.

I dont, I'm stating what happened, what else caused it? A tactical nuclear missile?

A manufacturing fault in the tyre? A foreign object on the road? Other un-noticed damaged to the tyre?

Who knows what caused it? You don't. Neither do I. You can make a guess but you'll never know the exact cause.

The other tyre you could try is the Fulda Sport Control

It is basically the old Good Year Eagle AS1, and has done well in tests so far considering its price.

They are German and part of Good Year Dunlop Empire so one would expect them to be good right?

Yeah maybe, but who cares, the tyre blew, it was a Falcon, it was also quite new so I'll not consider that brand in the future if thats ok

However if a few posts follow stating they have used them with no issues what so ever then I would be a fool not to consider them

Forgive me for being normal and not wanting something after a bad experiance!

Autogrip? They are uber low budget tyres, I wouldn't use them on a wheel barrow :D

But then I was happy on Falkens ;)
