Hey guys, basically today I was going to purchase a build on overclockers I have tried both through debit payment and tried paypal. both gave me some error saying transacton was unsucessful( I have purchased a GPU there about a month ago thru paypal but it said I need to verify my account).

The Overclocker guy phoned up and we tried again, but he said my account is either locked/blocked and said I need to ring up the bank. has anyone experienced this???

cheers

Sometimes if they spot out of the ordinary and or large spending patterns they can stop the transactions. They usually phone you though shortly after the attempt to verify though.

But you would be best speaking to the bank, they're the only ones that ca tell you why.

Ok cheers mate, Im paying a few hundred quid so that might be why lol, I'll go to the bank tomorrow and see what happens.

There's little point going into the bank, you have to talk to their fraud department which is a call centre in India(?).

They actually blocked a transaction I was trying to make last night too. I just called the number on the back of my card (they're open 24 hours) and they sorted it all out for me.

Lol serious, mind if I ask you what the number is??? So even if I go to the bank they won't be able to do much? am I correct?

Don't go to the bank. Just ring, internet banking number is fine, ask to speak to an advisor/select that menu option.

Explain.

Get asked to verify a couple of transactions on your card.

Authorise the payment to OcUK

Job done

They'll just point you to one of the phones in the bank and tell you that you need to talk to 'card services' or something like that. There's not a great deal they do in branch anymore.

The number is: 08457 404 404.

edit: Come to think of it, despite me phoning them to clear it last night, I got a call from their fraud department first thing this morning to inform me of the failed transaction last night and to double check it was me.

They're both the same option :p

Phone the card enquiry line on the back of your card (the number above), enter your card number, date of birth etc and then go through the options to speak to an advisor. When you get connected, explain the situation and they'll put you through to the fraud department who will ask you a couple of questions and it will be sorted.

I had the same problem last night (not with ocuk) and I done the above and made my transaction 30 seconds after hanging the phone up.

Happens to me about 10 times a year. They should call you after blocking a large transaction, usually straight away. Sometimes the next day and last time it happened to me they said they didn't have my phone which was utter bs as they blocked my account before a month ago and called me straight away.

Don't go to the local branch i did once and was told they can't do jack, told me to give them a call so that they could redirect me to the appropriate department.

You go through usually questions to prove that you are who you are, they unblock your card and then you can make the large transaction.

It's not a big deal, simple and common fraud prevention.

Hehe ah right ok, well my phone got changed so that could be why they didn't manage to contact me. Well its good that they are tightening down the fraud and preventing people accounts from getting stolen.

I'll give the number BaZ87 has provided me a call :).

Thx for help guys, Much appreciated

While I am sure this is the right telephone number and BaZ is a straight up guy for the purposes of smart banking:

NEVER PHONE A NUMBER THAT IS SUPPOSEDLY FOR YOUR BANK PROVIDED BY SOMEONE YOU DO NOT KNOW/TRUST/NOT PART OF YOUR BANK WITHOUT AT LEAST CHECKING ITS AUTHENTICITY FIRST

You will thank me when you avoid actual an fraud scheme! :D

Was very ****ed off when I booked four Take That tickets for my girlfriend only for the bank to block it 3 hours refreshing one page for f*ck all! However I'm sure I'd be the first to question why they hadn't stop it if it had been used and I was unaware.

I think I'd be more annoyed at my bank letting me buy Take That tickets.

Hehe of course I checked number :), Yeh I phoned them up and they will be posting me a new security key so hopefully everything will be sorted out by next week. thx for the help guys.

Barclays did this to me once.

I paid for some flights to Canada. Went shopping in Tesco the next day for the weekly food shop.

Everything ringed through the checkout and in bags, payment refused. Was embarrasing as ****, I then proceeded to phone Barclays whilst I was there and raged hard. It wasn't the guy on the phones fault, but I was still ****ed off none the less.

Reason I was so peeved was because I was actually IN canada 3 months before, they blocked all of my transactions, thus rendering me ****ed for money out there! a 20 minute cross-atlantic phone call (at me expense) solved it.
