So obliviously im upgrading but my pc is like 3 years out of date.

I will try to sell my old parts but tbh why would anyone want parts that are replaced these days?

I see some old things sold down by the bay. But I wonder why and who buys them and what for lol.

(lots of dodgy looking dudes down by the bay tbh though lol)

People who don't have a lot of money to spare for a PC that they may hardly use.

or just people who can't afford to constantly buy the most up to date stuff so buy parts that may be several years old, but still a huge upgrade to their current components.

sometimes people have old computers where 1 part has failed, or even just older pc's to mess about with, i have a pentium 4 beast that i used to teach my mother / 10 year old sister how to build with, no way im letting them get there hands on my shiny parts

People who are upgrading their older systems, which is cheaper than overhauling the whole thing to a new one. The older hardware still provides decent power (S775, S1366) compared to the latest.

Depending on what system setup, the latest ones aren't yet twice as fast in general use stuff so makes no sense to get a new system if you aren't using it for specific purposes.

PC components these days are wayyyyyy over powered for the general user. So 3-4 year old processors are still perfect and more than enough for internet and emails.

A Q6600 with 4GB of DDR2 will still destroy 20 tabs in firefox :) As well as gaming if you put it with a new graphics card. No need for a 2600K to do that.

I suppose i mean my old system plays most of even the latest games within last 6 months at high details and 1080p, metro, mafia 2, assasin creed brotherhood, deus ex HR etc..

2.3ghz dual core
5770 1gb hd
3gb ddr2

Only reason Im upgrading is cause it dont play bf3 well.

I guess that says something about bf3 more than anything else?

im building another pc for my son and im buy parts of a simaliar age maybe older he only plays basic games on it at mo so upgrading from single to dual core and upgrading ram and gfx card so maybe people like me

sounds like youd be interest in what im selling :D

Likewise. Im having to get 3 PC's for my brother, as he wants them for his kids for general internet useage and odd games. So these 'old' PC's are gonna come in handy

I think like many users on her we suffer from a distorted view of how much power a p.c should have.

i love to see the average rig of this forum

i,m quessing quad cpu 4 ghz +

8gb ram

dx11 card 20 gp pers sec +

SSD boot drive

2 + tb storage space

1080p + res screens

I like to keep hold off any old parts because I know eventually I'll be getting a telephone call from a family member or mate asking for help or wanting to upgrade their system.

We got pleasure from buying and using the parts when they were new and cutting edge and now we get pleasure from making someone else happy by giving them a system upgrade. It's a win win situation.

I've been looking for a couple of GB of DDR 184 Pin 3200 RAM for my PC which does all I need it to do. Just looking for some extra oomph - it's not cheap though.
