Two years in Adelaide

645km from Adelaide; population 13,000. That's two hints right there. ;)

Good Points :) I think they moved to Norwood when she was a kid.

My friend who i'm travelling with wants to stop off in Bangkok on the way, not really my first choice but he's been before so i'll just go with the flow.

Being stuck in South Wales for the last 5 years is taking it's toll, I so need a good break and have always wanted to go to Austrailia :p

I've known so many people who have gone and stayed so there must be a lot going for the country.

Horses for courses. Not everyone stays. Some folks come here and leave within 12 months because they don't like it.

As I always say to people, 'Australia: not the best place in the world. Just the best place for me.'

:)

Well, here we are. Mrs Evangelion & I will be celebrating our 6th wedding anniversary on Friday night and today marks our second year in Adelaide. It's gone pretty fast!

nice one matey, time has certainly flew, I don't think we had even applied for a visa when you posted your "packers taking the comp thread".

Yeah it's crazy, almost as if we blinked and missed it.

First 12 months were very hard slog. Life is still a far cry from easy street, but we've settled into a good routine now and Mrs Evangelion makes sure the budget balances every month. Occasionally we allow ourselves a small luxury, the most recent being a Miele dishwasher! We bought it second hand from some rich friends for the princely sum of £32! :)

You are out Elizabeth way arnt you?

Have they Cleaned the Area up since much over the last few years since they expanded the military base not far from there?

Just curious because i dont head that way too often and spend most my time In the hills :)

Yep, just on the border of Salisbury Park & Salisbury Heights.

They have cleaned it up a lot, and I can tell they've spent millions in the process. You'd never mistake it for Burnside :p but it's come a long way.

My local public hospital (within 15 minutes' walking distance!) is the Lyell McEwin, a large, high tech teaching hospital with 257 beds. In May this year they added a brand new $240,000 Paediatric Emergency Department unit as part of a three stage upgrade. By the time upgrades are complete, Lyell McEwin will have 407 beds.

Parking is free if you stay for less than 2 hours. There's also a multi-story car park on the same block, though you have to pay for it. We've only ever used the free parking.

Our son ('Wibbly Pig') was born here. Birthing suite was outstanding, and the staff were excellent. :)

Holy cow they have tarted up Lyell McEwin, when I left Adelaide that place had one of the worst reputations for South Australian hospitals.

That said, both my sister's daughters were born there.

Glad to see it's all working out for you. I love Adelaide and would love to move back there someday (born and lived in Belair).

They have poured squillions of dollars into the Lyell McEwin and it's now a pretty impressive hospital.

Our first child was born at Walsall Manor; our second at Lyell McEwin. I'd rate the Manor 4/10 and Lyell McEwin 8/10. The difference between them is truly breathtaking.

My wife is a Pom and usually critical of anything Australian, but she was gobsmacked by the quality of the facilities and care we received at Lyell McEwin. I have some photos of the birthing suite here. It's not too shabby!

:)

Its definatly better then our local hospital. Its run by power tripping nurses and is little more then a transfer station.

You're better off going straight to the city or mt barker if you need a hospital.

I really hope the royal adelaide gets demolished and rebuilt soon. It really is a big bloody scunge hole of a joint :(

Is the Lyell mcewin one of those super clinics they were going to open?

Where I was born (Queen Victoria) they turned into flats :(

Yep my youngest bro and his wife moved to Adelaide back in Feb this yr, shes a GP and got a 4 yr contract.

Anyhow my brother doesnt like Adelaide very much, says its pretty damn boring as come 8pm its like a ghost town lol and theres not much of a nitelife. But his main concern is that hes unable to find a job for himself so him and his wife has decided to up sticks and move to Brisbane by end of this year as he thinks his job prospects maybe better there than what it currently is in Adelaide...they wont be flying but driving from Adelaide to Brisbane which is quite a distance i imagine.

Id say a good 3000km at a guess spawn:p

People either like it hear or they dont. I've grown up here and will miss it once I leave, but at the same time im going to love exploring new places :)

Adelaide and SA in general, is a place to grow up in and leave in your early 20s. Then come back to in your 40s.

Prospects for career and experience are pretty **** poor between those ages and your priorities and life needs are different.

Her indoors and myself are emigrating over to Aus, no dates yet. We looked at Adelaide as starter base.

Heading to Aus next year for a few months intending to spend a week or so in a few places to get a feel for it.

Adelaide looks very nice, quiet may not be an issue. Any good amateur footy teams? :)
