MSI GTX 580 Lightning Xtreme Edition 3072MB x2 (SLI)

what driver are u planning on using? im having some stuttering / jittering (on games and vlc) with 275.33 and 285.38

Ive not used it much yet but im running the latest nvidia drivers, only played f1 2011 for 20 mins but everything was max'd out and no stuttering , as i say however , my system has barely been used so far so that may not be the case with everything!

I use to have crossfire 5870's and noticed I got very bad stuttering using any kind of media players and also they took a while to play.

I then disabled hardware acceleration and that seem to have sorted it out although I am not sure if this will help you in the slightest.

How are you getting on with these cards then?

My stuttering has been sorted, on latest drivers now, problem free :-).

Have you overclocked them?

I have a few overclocks that I use. I use one with a moderate overclock I think it is 900/1800/2250 that the one I use for everyday use.

I use it because even though there is a lot of potential with these cards overlocking wise the fan while good at cooling is stupidly loud when using high clocks. So I set it at this for a good balance over temps/noise/OC.

My second one is 950/1900/2250. I use this for games which need more oomph than my first overclock. games which are demanding. I can run this overlock on stock fan profile and seems to be fine for the most part but more often than not I run it with an aggressive fan profile which was originally setup for a high clocked 570 power edition.

My third and final one is for benchmarking. It's 990/1980/2300. This has to be used with an aggressive fan profile as I don't like the temps otherwise with stock fan profiles. Fan is loud as hell but it fine for benchmarking sessions I just can't stomach it on prolonged gaming sessions.

What about you? What setting do you use that you feel comfortable with?

2-way SLI of GTX580s would struggle in some games under 1920x1080, such like The Witcher 2 (with Ubersampling), Metro 2033 (with MSAA 4X + DOF), Shogun 2 (DX11 max). I have no doubt you'll be unsatisfied with the performance under 2 x 27".

Bullcrap! For starters he said he would be gaming on the ultrasharp, not the other screen. Secondly, Ubersampling makes the witcher2 look worse not better, Metro should be fine, and same for shogun 2. I game on the same screen with 2 overclocked 6950/70's and I get awesome fps in most games.

I have to say that when 1grands worth of cards can't make mincemeat of a game its because the game is poorly coded, not for a lack of power!

and My 570GTX 2.5GB SLI goes through witcher 2 @ 2560x1600 with 50FPS constant so 580GTX SLI would be more than fine.:o (
this includes ubersampling everything on ultra)

dude, you have a grands worth of msi goodness coming there, seriously there is absolutely no need to overclock them. None. Not even a little bit. Just sit back, turn everything to ultra and enjoy them for the next 3-4 years... :D

They dont call this place overclockers for nothing!

Go for broke!

Does anyone else consider this guy a Troll? or is it just me

How are u getting on with the XE's?

What clock speeds you on?
What are ur idle and load temps like?

I've found that these work well for me for bf3, shogun 2 and crysis 2.

Default / OC profile
Core Clock: 910 (MHz)
Shader Clock: 1820 (MHz)
Memory Clock: 2200 (MHz)
Core Voltage 1063 (mV)

They idle at around 45 C and highest card gets to around 72 C.
