Anyone has any idea how much it would cost for a fuse spur to be installed in a flat? I'm looking for a total cost (work+material etc.)

Do it yourself and it will cost you £20.

Get a pro to do it and it is a question of how long is a piece of string! How long will the spur be? how easy is it to get access to the ring main to spur off? How neatly does it need to be done (will the cables be buried or surface mount etc etc) call 3 and get some free quotes done porbably looking at £100 minimum as it seems impossible to get anybody to do anything for less these days.

The problem is I have absolutely no idea about electricals so wouldn't know where to start. I'm quite handy with DIY so I suppose I could do it if I google it and find good information on it.

The purpose of it is for a feature fireplace so (I guess?) it shouldn't matter how neat it is done. As for the ring main etc, I have no idea and don't know where to look. I got the electrical plan but I'm not sure if it's drawn there. I guess I can ask the developer so I'll make a note of finding out.

As this would be covered by Part P regs, I'd suggest putting your job on one of the "Find a Trader"-type sites. That way you'd get 3+ quotes and reviews of the applicants too.

Good luck.

Thank you both for answering. It seems it's going to be cheaper for me to do it myself or get an electrician to do it than pay the price the builder asked me (£90, and that was before they plastered it).
