House selling wierd offer ...

Why not have a tenancy agreement for 6 months (house goes off the market) and when he has all the money you can initiate the house sale transaction?

That way he doesn't pay anything upfront, you get 6m rent (which you can agree to deduct from the sale price if all goes through ok) and reduce all complications? If he doesn't pay rent then you go through eviction but that could happen with any tenant.

Probably stay away as it sounds dodgy though.

If it looks too good or weird then step away.

I am not saying the following would happen to the house, but I know a businessman who had a warehouse for rent on an industrial estate. Two guys paid him 6 months rent up front in cash £100,000. Great he thought, no need to collect rent payments for 6 months.

6 months later they left the building and it was full of tyres and waste. They basically accepted waste and tyres from business at knocked down rates and stored it in the warehouse. They left him with almost a £700,000 bill to legally dispose of the waste and tyres (his property so ultimately he was responsible for the cleanup).

So what looked like a good deal...........

I can;t think what he could do to your house in 6 months to make a profit but that doesn't mean to say he couldn't do something.

Ignoring the fact that everyone says it hasn't happened.. Im going to reply as I'm curious...

Given the large amount of money that's presumably involved.. shouldn't you speak with your solicitor and get their view on what the worst thing is this chap can do? Agree he can cause you problems and essentially be a squatter but maybe there's some other law we're unaware of that he's trying to exploit ...e.g. as a random example could he claim that he's paid 100grand and therefore he's paid equivalent of 10 years rent and can therefore remain for 10 years?? Speak to your solicitor. If you can draw up some cast iron clad contracts then why not but if it seems like more trouble than it's worth forget it.

Well ..

I was actually the one who was considering making the offer. My house has sold, but I can't get the mortgage required for half of this bigger house until early next year as my accountant has done such a good job of making my business accounts look bad to lower my tax bill that at the moment the books are lolworthy (this is actually a good thing until someone other than the taxman is interested in how your business is doing). My year end is December, at which point the accountant can definately make my company look good enough to get the mortgage with THOSE books (which ironically will make me liable for a lot more tax .. but whadya' gonna do?). As I've sold my house I want to move in to this new place now rather then mess around renting for - what - 2.5 months. I want to say 6 months to give me some contingency.

But from what I've read on here I won't even bother with the offer as it will 'look wierd' .. just rent somewhere and hope the house doesn't shift for a few months ..

pity -- because they COULD actually sell to me right now .. get half the dosh .. and save me AND them a load more hassle. the offer would not be dodgy at all!! BUT human kind and mistrust will work against me I guess .. so (based on comments here) won't even bother picking up the phone .. :)

If your house is worth a tenner then I don't see the problem

Otherwise why wouldn't he get a mortgage or something....

Edit:
So basically you've stolen off the state through tax fraud..... @_@

As long as it's written into the contract that you have to come up with the most outrageous hypothetical reason why you can't pay in 6 months time, then I would definitely proceed.

Then in 6 months time I'd start a new thread on OcUk asking whether this was a situation that required:

a) physical violence
b) involving the cops
c) going to court for the lolz
d) pancake (you realise that the man is actually your dad and you wonder if he will grass his own son up)
e) pancake (tell him to go shoplifting to recover the lost money)
f) pancake (tell him he can earn his money back through reverse-prostitution)

Oh no wait a minute, you already know the answer to all these situations......

ps - you make a lot of 'theoretical' threads ;)

So basically you are a cheat and a liar, toavoid tax you cheated and lied, and now you can't take advantage as you've claimed to the govt to have less than you earned.

Good work britboy, proved once again the deceipt and deception in your character.

Nope, just a business man. As a general rule every business pays as little tax as it can legally get away with. I have broken no rules. :)
