Hi,

I used to be a massive PC gamer back in the day, but I've been off the scene for many years, I think the last FPS I played was Half Life 2.

I bought a PS3 recently in the hope of getting back into games, I used to love FPS's so I need some recommendations, has anything come along to give Half Life a run for it's money?

I was going to pick up RAGE tomorrow, but after hearing a few negative opinions I'm not so sure any more.

It's not a FPS, it's a Third Person Shooter but Uncharted (1, 2 and soon 3) is one of the finest series of games i've ever had the pleasure to experience.

Killzone 2 + 3 are pretty decent, not Half-Life levels of amazing, but certainly high end shooters.

The Darkness is a great shooter, very different, but the graphics suffer on the PS3 as it was one of the early release titles when no one knew how to code for it (it's still more than playable though).

Resistance 1, 2 and 3 are all pretty decent, 3 is the best of the bunch, 2 has recieved very mixed opinions (i loved it though!) and 1 is very old school. Again being an early title 1 has rather lacklustre graphics.

COD and Battlefield really, Killzone must be the move over rated game I have ever played, Resistance is pretty much forgotten about but is probably the better game overall.

Killzone feels as if you are looking at the world through a belly button and why do you have to wear lead boots in the game?? I will say I prefer a fast paced FPS if slow and paced is your cup of tea then go for it.

Resistance even when released was a yawn fest, very boring shooter.

Stick with the cross platform games Rage is good but short and if you do get it play it on nightmare as Normal is so damn easy.

For exclusives as mentioned previously the uncharted series is amazing excellent story action and puzzle also the 3rd is out shortly.

Another very good series missed so far (but again not FPS) is the ratchet and clank games very good very fun and addictive.

Firstly avoid Resistance like the plague!!

This year alone has seen some very good FPS', Killzone 3 (although you should probably play 2 first), Crysis 2, Deus Ex (not a proper shooter though), Rage, you cant go wrong with any of them IMO

borderlands is class whatever system its played on, preferably the GOTY one!
i played killzone 2 recently aswell and its pretty good as mentioned above, i got it for £4 too from the local trade in shop.
are you more interested in single player or online multiplayer btw?

Killzone 2 is OK. Haven't played KZ3 yet (had it a few weeks as well) Didn't like Resistance 1 much. 2 was ok but nothing special and if you used to be a big PC FPS gamer then there's not much new to see. Not played res3 (yet?). Crysis 2 is good but not really much to do with Crysis 1 which is why some people don't like it.

My favourite game of all time is Half-life 2. My 2nd favourite is Fallout 3. Have you played that? not stictly an FPS. More an FPS with some RPG added. Amazing game. I see the new Deus x is £16.99 on PS3 or maybe cheaper if you looked. i'm about 12 hours into that on the PC. That's quite good and has quite an old 'feel'

Other than that I'd say don't dismiss 3rd person games such as Batman AA and Uncharted 1,2,3. They have come a long way since the PS1/2 days in terms on depth etc.

Don't forget to look at Fallout 3 :)

Resistance trilogy and Killzone 2 & 3 as people have already mentioned are the exclusive PS3 FPS games.

If your PS3 is connected online and you fancy some exclusive multiplayer only, then there is also MAG, an almost Battlefield style game (More infantry focused) with a 256 player mode.

I'll only be playing single player, if that makes a difference?

it may well do, as usually cod's and battlefields have limp single player campaigns bolted on top of the multiplayer side. with that said, cod4 is easily the best single player campaign imho and it can be bought for a fiver used.

i would pick up bioshock for sure, Singularity is ok too.
i enjoyed bulletstorm on the pc so it might be good to look at too for the ps3.
