Best way to bring money in the country

Car accident basically, yeah, injury compensation. It's nothing to do with employment.

I can't imagine any circumstances in which that would be subject to tax, so you should be safe on that front, and if you've got proof of how it arose then you shouldn't fall foul of the proceeds of crime rules that people have mentioned.

Crazy that you have to prove that you legally earned the money; talk about innocent until proven guilty, what a deplorable piece of legislation.

Not really. It will only be used where there is reason to suspect the money is ill gotten, much as any other criminal law is there to be used when there is suspicion of wrongdoing.

Suspicion is not proof which is my point entirely. How many people are acquitted of crimes every year? They would be in prison if the justice system were based on speculation.

You sound like scorza. As you have said, people aren't convicted on speculation, so I'm no sure what point you're making.

It's from an insurance claim and it's probably going to be around $9000. Not a huge sum but I really don't feel it's right if I'm taxed for it by the British government because it has nothing to do with them.

If it is from an Insurance settlement, then make sure you have the paperwork detailing the payment with you - far easier to prove that the money is legitimate.

Proceeds of Crime Act isn't a deplorable piece of legislation.

It is an extremely useful piece of legislation that takes apart the earnings of Criminals.

If you earn money legitimately you can easily prove where you got your money from. Every penny I've earned has been taxed at Source and paid into my bank account. If I have money in my posession I can usually prove that I drew it out of a bank with my cash card or withdrew it from Savings accounts with a passbook.

Drug dealers usually cannot do this. Neither can the people in your Town that drive round in large expensive cars, live in big houses and oddly don't seem to work and amazingly manage to afford all these nice things from DSS payments.....

BTW they're not convicted or have a Criminal record if the money is taken off them under the Proceeds of Crime Act. The money is seized on suspicion that it is obtained from a Criminal Act or Intended to facilitate a Criminal Act. The matter is dealt with in a Civil Court.

The onus is on the individual to prove that they came by the money by legitimate means. Ordinary law abiding people as I said can normally prove this - if they can they get the money back. Criminals on the other hand have a very very hard time proving that the money is legitimate and normally just walk away from the Civil Court hearing leaving the money uncontested.

The money by the way is usually split, some goes to the Treasury whilst some goes to the Local Police Authority - this is usally plouged back into the Community to help fund Drug rehabilitation or some form of Community Scheme.
